Tie fighter-style ship is fondant covered rice cereal. Wings are gumpaste. All atop a buttercream iced cake with fondant stars.
This is not a trainer but apparently the real deal, the North American Aviation 50 fighter made for the United States Army Air Force in World War II. The brains of the time wanted them all Khaki instead of powder blue on top and whitish on the bottom. No stealth here! It seems like enthusiasts still prefer the older, powerful designs which are not being produced any more. "Hot the rod and spoil the child," said Walt Kelly, the originator of Pogo Possum, an aged syndicated cartoon strip. Kelly was a genius of the media. Perhaps you know a famous Kelly saying, "We have met the enemy, and he is us!" Pretty much applies after decades. Here is North American Aviation's World War II aircraft and that had a pretty beefy radial engine. They built 15,495 of the various versions starting first in 1935 according to Wikipedia. It was instrumental in winning the War of the Pacific. If I remember, that it was perhaps the most produced WWII aircraft.
I got a notice about an upcoming airport fly in and show. I checked with Ron and he said it would be worthwhile. I got out there a bit late and so I was rather hurried. The airport approaches were a disaster of activity but I headed around the back intending to park at Ron's spot but had to settle for a space six cars over from the best access to the show. I was not dissatisfied! I could quickly walk over to the activity and was happy with my fortune.
I, of course, saw the interesting sky streaming down from the hills so I tried to use it in the composition. I managed to incorporate that sky in some of my shots. I finally caught Ron when I was done and was glad to dodge the cleanup in the aftermath.
Rebuild of the Falcon I did in March which was a redesign of the same ship in my circa 1995 comic. Since the last build I've massively increased my parts bin and have picked up some fun new tricks. This one fixes some of the things I wasn't super happy with in the old version and is not-coincidentally much sturdier.
I took a shot of this statue yesterday as part of my 365*1-project. This is on my way home from work so I saw it today with a cloudy sky.It looked very well in colour, but much stronger in black and white...

The United States Air Force's 33rd Fighter Wing at Maurice Bishop International Airport in Grenada.
This photo was taken in April 2009 when the USAF set up camp in Grenada to support their security missions ahead of President Obama's visit to the Summit of the Americas in Trinidad. Because of this sunset photo I was fortunate enough to be invited down to the tarmac and take photographs of the men and their machines.

21st November 2015 Bruntingthorpe Airfield with a VC10 and four Buccaneers from the cold war. A bitter day with sub zero temperatures and a strong winds.
On my way to the post office with some parcels I suddenly heard the loud noise of a low-flying jet fighter aircraft approaching at speed.
In milliseconds I dumped the parcels on the road ... faffed around for the digital camera in my pocket ... in my fumbling I dropped the lens-hood on the road ... switched the camera on ... tweaked the ISO ... tweaked the aperture ... the plane was now passing very near by and I got a boring photo ... then heard another plane ... it flew even closer over-head ... another boring photo ... then another plane further away behind me ... and an even more boring grab-shot photo.
Once the noise had dropped down I looked at the boring photos and deleted them. Put the camera back in my pocket and bent down to pick up the bag with parcels and 'saw' this really interesting photo.
Fumbled in my pocket again for the camera ... dropped the lens-hood noisily on the road ... et cetera et cetera.
