The Grand Ballroom at S. Cottage Grove Ave. and E. 64th St. features a terra-cotta façade enclosing shops on the ground level with a ballroom above. The ballroom includes an original 60-foot oak bar and a 6,500-square-foot dance floor illuminated by graceful arched windows. Its original name when completed in 1923 by architects Loewenburg & Loewenburg was the Cinderella Ballroom; it was also known as the Granada for a time after the original Granada burned down in 1930. The slipper and pumpkin are featured motifs throughout the venue. After a recent brush with demolition, today the Grand Ballroom has been fully restored as a venue for dance and music.

This float features a parasol framed with dyed fabric decoration, and is accompanied by young stick twirlers and musicians during the Gion festival procession. In addition, this float is unique for having originated before the Onin Wars (1467-1477), and is believed to be a prototype of the other Gion festival floats.
Though repeatedly burned down and rebuilt, the main body of this float was restored in 1985 through the efforts of some local people. The troupe of indispensable dancers and musicians who perform along with this float was also revived, and the float resumed participation in the parade as the 32nd float in 1987 (currently the newest float in use), after a long absence of 117 years.
The dance and music that is performed by the present-day performers who accompany the Shijo-kasa-hoko is based on the “Furyu-odori” dance (literally “gracious, tasteful dancing”) that originated in Kyoto and spread across Japan in the 15th and 16th centuries. The “Kenketo-odori” dance of neighboring Shiga prefecture, which is designated as Important Intangible Folk Property of Japan, was also used as a reference for the revival of the performance.
Painting begins with the 'trace line', so called as it is traced directly from the original drawing. This simply gives definition to the figures and foliage, but remains very flat, thus a second layer of painting in the form of a thinner wash is later applied to create depth and modelling.
Balanced Rock is one of the most popular features of Arches National Park, situated in Grand County, Utah, United States. Balanced Rock is located next to the park's main road, at about 9.2 miles (14.8 km) from the park entrance. It is one of only a few prominent features clearly visible from the road.
The total height of Balanced Rock is 128 feet (39 m), with the balancing rock rising 55 feet (16.75 m) above the base. This rock is the largest of its kind in the park, weighing approximately the same as an icebreaker ship or 27 blue whales. Balanced Rock had a smaller sibling named "Chip-Off-the-Old-Block" that collapsed in the winter of 1975–76, the eventual fate of this feature as well.

The 70 metre (230ft) high, gently curving cliff of white limestone has amazed visitors for centuries. Formed along the line of the Middle Craven Fault, it has been eroded backwards from the line of the fault by the action of water and ice over millions of years.
Over the last one and a half million years, Malham was probably covered at least three times with huge sheets of ice. As these glaciers ground their way over the landscape they plucked rock from the face of the Cove and carried it away. Each time the glaciers melted, huge floods of water further eroded the face of the Cove.
The water flows underground now, but then, the ground was permanently frozen and so the glacial meltwater had to run over the top. The result was that a massive waterfall once thundered over the Cove.
Today, the sheer rock face of Malham Cove challenges climbers and also protects a pair of nesting peregrine falcons which can be viewed during the summer months diving and wheeling alongside the house martins and jackdaws that also call the Cove home.

This photograph features the original School building, completed in 1880 and torn down in 1929. The current Schoolhouse is built on about the same location. At the time this photograph was taken this building was a dorm for Third and Fourth Formers. The photographer, Theodore Mitchell Hastings, Form of 1894, resided here during the school year.

A number of recently uncovered archaeological features have been incorporated into the paths through the park including stone setts of a former laneway that ran through the area called Keysers Lane, medieval cobbles and some Georgian-era paving tiles. The park has also been well planted and now includes a number of interactive sound-based installations for children, as well as a new memorial water feature, recalling the children who lost their lives in the events of Easter 1916. The park is also lit at night.
About two months ago I visited this park with a friend who has a negative view of life and everything associated with life and he totally disliked the park complaining that it was fake and not a true representation of the real Dublin. I totally disagreed with him and I was a bit surprised by his claim that the park was created as recently as the 1980s and that it was always a magnet for anti-social activity.
It turns out that my friend is correct about it being a new park but in my opinion that is not important as the area features some of the city’s oldest surviving structures including the most substantial section of the 12th century city walls and the atmospheric St Audoen’s Gate, and the medieval parish church of St Audoen – Dublin’s oldest church in continuous use.
Unfortunately he is, in general, correct about anti-social activity because many parks in the city had been closed to the public for extended periods as the City Council was unwilling to deal with the problems as they arose. However, to be fair, they do appear to have adopted a different approach recently - a few years ago they re-opened the Croppies' Acre and that project has been a success. A few months ago they re-opened the Peace Park on Nicholas Street across the road from Christ Church Cathedral and in March of this year the remodelled St Audoen’s Park at High Street was officially unveiled by Lord Mayor of Dublin Cllr Nial Ring at a ceremony on 14th March.

the features that most obviously distinguished the 400 horn from other saxophones are the neck's under-slung octave key, the big bell with a wide, flat flare, and especially the back-mounted bell B and Bb tone holes.
The 400 horns also incorporated the Snap-On pad system Buescher had used since the early 1920s, and the Norton Spring system introduced in the early '30s.
In the 1940s the only other saxophone that featured an under-slung neck in this style was King's Super 20, a model that emerged after World War II. Buescher's design was conceived and executed first.
The long key rods and key tubing with the silverish color underneath the lacquer are solid nickel-silver. This was one of the 400 horn's deluxe features; nickel silver rods don't bend easily and don't wear as fast as plain brass.
This horn had one previous owner and has been relacquered once, though it's hard to tell unless you look closely. Supposedly the horn was sent back to Buescher to be refinished; whoever did it was very careful not to buff down the engraving - most of it looks fresh and sharp.
If you look closely you can see a little rouge on the pearl in the keys, a rubbing compound left over from the pre-lacquer buffing to the metal. I don't know why it sticks to pearls like that, but I've seen it on other horns. It could be all the rouge wasn't cleaned off before the keywork was sprayed with new lacquer. That's the only fault I can find with the lacquer job; should've taped the pearls before buffing & lacquering.

One of the nifty features of Omniweb is its source editor window. It can carry out basic formatting/tidying of your code, alter the source and redisplay it (great for debugging), and save it. If you're working on a local server, enter its details, so that Omniweb can recognize it, and store it in the correct place without having to go through the normal save dialogue.
My favourite feature is syntax error highlighting, which I miss from my Dreamweaver days. Here's its highlighted the stray closing div tag that was causing the problems...
Halswell Quarry is a unique 60.4 hectare park, with an unusual combination of recreational walks, historic sites and botanical collections. Important historic buildings from the quarrymen’s days are being preserved and the once noisy rock face is now a quiet amphitheatre facing onto a parkland of short walks and wetland ponds.
Halswell Quarry also features six sister city gardens and a Canterbury botanical collection. Tracks, viewing points and three car parking areas have made the park increasingly popular for walking and other recreational activities over the last decade.
The Quarry, which played a major role in the development of Christchurch, ceased production in 1990 after 140 years of quarrying. Its fine blue-grey stone can be seen in many of the city's prominent buildings including the Canterbury Museum and Provincial Council Buildings.
The quarry itself is within the side of a crater lip and features basaltic columns, red ash and scoria, and a distinctive slate-like rock that was a larva dome and is now known as Halswell Stone. It is this stone that was used for building and, crushed, as roading.
The park also features a small but heavily planted native wetland where the natural lowland swampy vegetation that once dominated what is now the Christchurch City landscape, has been restored, which is already bringing back birds in numbers to make a visit worthwhile, especially when the kowhai, karakeke and manatu are in flower.

Confusing species :- Sloanea australis subsp.parviflora - the fruit have very short rusty brown bristles. Sloanea macbrydei - the fruit have sparse bristles and they are 2- valved.
This interesting bunch of galaxies features the group known as Stephan's Quintet, the lower group, and the spiral galaxy NGC7331 with its companions, above.
Four members of the Quintet are gravitationally bound to one another, and you can see how they have been deformed by gravitational pulls. The bluer galaxy is only 40 million light years from earth and appears strictly by coincidence to be related to the others, which are on the order of 290 million light years away.
NGC7331 is similar in size and structure to the Milky Way, and is sometimes referred to as "the Milky Way's twin". As you can see, it is surrounded by a bunch of smaller galaxies known as the Deer Lick group,. They are only visually related, however; NGC7331 is 40 million light years away, and the others range from about 290 to 360 million light years away. But who's counting?
This is one pic you will definitely want to click on to blow it up to maximum size. And if you do, and if you then pan around, you will see some additional galaxies here and there.

The curved line painted on the road and the upward bend of the crash rail make this LOOK like barrel distortion but it's just the odd features of the roadway.
The Jack Skellington Expression Pin ($9.95) features a rotating pin on pin design. It is a circular pin that is 1 1/2'' in diameter. The front layer has an image of the full moon (painted yellow) against the spiral hill in the background, and the upper body of Jack Skellington, from his neck down to his waist. There are silver bones scattered in the background, and white bones framing the scene. There is a semi-circular notch above the neck to allow the face of Jack to appear, from the lower layer. The lower layer has the face of Jack in 10 different expressions, corresponding to his many faces in the original movie The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993). The lower layer rotates freely to display each of the faces, which fit nicely in the opening in the upper layer.
