Africa features prominently in China's increasing role as an actor in global development, attaining new salience at the 6th Forum on China Africa Cooperation, Johannesburg, in December 2015. The changing Chinese role in the continent is a vitally important and increasingly consequential engagement today, but follows a longer history of meaningful connections.

This unique panel will bring together different perspectives on China's relations with Africa, and African relations with China, with particular focus on questions about the politics of development over time. It features different generations of leading analysts: a pioneer of the study of China-Africa relations, a foremost authority on current China Africa relations, and a leading emerging analyst and scholar on Africa-China today.

Panelists:

Professor George T. Yu is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. A pioneer in studying China's relations with Africa, he has been a leading analyst of China's relations with Africa and the Third World since the 1960s. His books include China and Tanzania: A Study in Cooperative Interaction (1970) and China's African Policy: A Study of Tanzania (1975), as well as more recent chapters and commentary about China's relations with Africa.

Professor Chris Alden teaches international relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science, and is a research associate at the Department of Political Sciences at the University of Pretoria. He previously taught at the University of the Witwatersrand from 1990-2000 and established the East Asia Project in 1992. Outdoor Garden Water Feature Fountain - Features / Fountains

Garden fountains are beautiful outdoor water accents. Outdoor fountains are used in public parks, gardens, yards, patios and decks. The most traditional design is a tiered waterfall with multiple levels where the water cascades down many levels of stone. A garden fountain is very dramatic and has a high degree of water noise and motion due to the water becoming airborne and crashing into the lower level pool below. The water finds it's way into the pool at the bottom and is taken back to the top again by a powerful water pump to begin it's journey anew. Some famous artists and sculptors have created garden water features which add life and elegance to their sculptures. Today craftsmen and increased knowledge have made available garden fountains for private residences.

Features from D Silo

D Silo, a Grade II restored grain silo, part of the Millenium Mills complex.

The current (and derelict) Millenium Mills building dates back to 1934, built for Spillers Ltd, replacing the original mill constructed in 1905 for William Vernon & Sons millers (the mill was named after a blend of flour that won the 1899 'The Miller Challenge Cup'). The mill, and two neighbours, were sited on the dock to allow grain imported from oversea to be ground into flour as soon as possible. The mills were badly damaged in the Second World War, reopening in 1953 and continuing until the 1980s, the end brought about following the closure of the Royal Victoria Dock.

The Victoria Dock opened in 1855 (the 'Royal' was granted in 1880). This was the first dock designed to accommodate steam ships, the first with rail links to the national rail network and the first to use hydraulic machinery.

By 1860, the shipping was estimated to total 850,000 tonnes, larger than any of the other London ports. Although badly damaged throughout the Second World War, the Royal Victoria Docks were restored and returned to its former strength. The decline came in the 1960s with containerisation and larger ships shifting traffic to Tilbury. The docks closed in 1980.

"The largest, grandest and most expensive chapel built in Wales" - Anthony Jones' description of Tabernacle, Morriston, in his 1996 definitive book Welsh Chapels which features the iconic Grade 1-listed building as its cover-photograph.

Victorian industrialisation brought rapid population growth to the lower Swansea Valley, close to the port of Swansea, as rural workers sought new employment opportunities in many tinplate and copper works established in the area. Welsh Nonconformity enjoyed great popularity; a dozen chapels were built in the Morriston area alone in the latter half of the nineteenth century and Tabernacle, planned as the ultimate evocation of a Welsh chapel in terms of architecture, space and facilities, was completed in 1872 at a staggering cost of £18,000. A rare photograph shows the building shrouded by timber scaffolding as construction reached the base of its 160ft spire.

The design was evolved by three prominent figures in the area: the minister, Emlyn Jones, the architect, John Humphrey and the contractor Daniel Edwards. They undertook a tour of Britain to see the newest and best chapels and returned to assemble a grand collage of the elements they liked best. Although the facade, with its eight huge Corinthian columns and arches, predominates, the other three sides are also designed in detail. The interior, an impressive display of the carpenter's craft in the so-called Age of Mahogany, is of equal quality with its downward-swooping choir gallery and distinctive three-case organ.

The Cambrian national newspaper described it as "the one great redeeming feature in that manufacturing district, an oasis in a desert". The heavy industry is no more, but the visual impact of the building, its spire visible for miles around, remains undiminished.

The church members, some 800 in 1872, relocated to the new building from a nearby chapel for lack of space; following the fervour of the 1904 Revival, membership at Tabernacle peaked at 1059 in 1910. The architect's drawings indicate that it was intended to retain the name of the former chapel at the planning stage, however the foundation stone bears the name Tabernacle. Emlyn Jones' pioneering work was followed by long ministries by two figures of national stature: J.J.Williams (1915-1944) poet and Archdruid of Wales 1936-38, and Trebor Lloyd Evans, writer and historian (1945 - 1964) who worked tirelessly to revive the Welsh language, then in rapid decline, and campaigned to establish the first Welsh-language school in the area.

Tabernacle, often featured on television programmes such as Songs of Praise, remains a religious and cultural centre as it approaches its 140th anniversary, hosting some dozen choral concerts a year by local and visiting choirs. It has been visited by Royalty, generations of celebrated preachers, singers and leading concert organists. The Tabernacle Choir was formed in 1876; one of the longest-established Welsh mixed choirs, it maintains a tradition of concerts with orchestral accompaniment. Penfro Rowlands, its conductor 1892-1919, composed the hymn tune Blaenwern sung worldwide. His successor, Edgar Hughson, conducted an astonishing range of 24 choral works in 49 annual concerts during his long tenure and also led the appeal for a new 3-manual organ of 40 stops by Hill, Norman & Beard installed in 1922. Part-funded by a major grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, it was comprehensively restored by Harrison & Harrison of Durham in 1998.

Judge's comment (1st): I love that this photo highlights the diversity of the derby fan base.

Rem features the same aggressive exterior styling as Zodiac, creating a magnificent combination with the nature. The twin series can be differentiated from their interior design approach where different designers took part by Owner’s request. With a broad beam of almost 8 meters, the twin series have a uncommonly spacious layout but creates a cosy and warm environment despite the large volume.

One of the attractive features of iPad 3 is that it is thin, sleek and amazingly flat-out. No one would like to hide the beauty of iPad 3 behind bulky iPad cases. The new smart cover by Apple is a real beauty and is as slim as iPad 3. This is a newer, better, and smarter version of iPad case. The new ipad and the Smart Cover are indeed made for each other.

So much more than a case, the new ipad Smart Cover was designed alongside iPad 3 to be its perfect match: a thin, durable cover that magnetically aligns for a perfect fit. It automatically wakes and sleeps your iPad. It’s a handy stand for reading, watching, and typing. Its microfiber lining keeps your iPad screen clean. And it’s a way to make your iPad as personal on the outside as it is on the inside.

The following paragraph features the rantings of a Flickr absentee (that's me); read it if you would like to say, ".......Oh-kaaaayyyyy..." afterward!-

It has been several months since I've last uploaded anything to Flickr (and the site underwent major changes in the last year, imagine that!). Anyway, I've still been hanging around, still disagreeing overall with the changes and especially how they were handled but trying to get used to it; mostly been browsing and favoriting, commenting here and there. Thanks to everyone for making my last uploaded photos get a ton of views, haha. I've also been absent for personal reasons, and for camera woes... I had just gotten used to mobile uploading my photos of my girls I took with my Android when it died and went to Heaven. These are some of the last pictures I took with it, gleefully liberated to my computer before the phone became inaccessible, with more individual shots of these girls and one other set to follow. I still have a load of pictures of my girls taken with my old camera that need to be uploaded here too... Anyway, with all that backed-up explanation out of the way, here are Onei and Umi!
