The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a large cat of the subfamily Felinae that occurs in Southern, North and East Africa, and a few localities in Iran. Cheetahs inhabit a variety of habitats - dry forests, scrub forests, and savannahs. The species is IUCN Red Listed as vulnerable, as it suffered a substantial decline in its historic range in the 20th century due to habitat loss, poaching, illegal pet trade, and conflict with humans.
The original coalition of five cheetahs, Tano Mbora, has now dwindled down to two, known as the Mbora Mbili, is surviving in the harsh environment of the wild in Maasai Mara with every day bringing a new challenge.
This beautiful Cheetah, Winda one of the Mbora Mbili Cheetah coalition, was resting under a bush with a full belly. Captured during a photography safari on an early morning game drive in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya.
Featured artist Anna Arnold was laying down some hair spray to hold her chalk in place when she paused to see what other artists were up to. The artwork in the circle behind her is an excerpt/teaser from Monet's ‘Waterlilies’ currently being displayed at the museum.

This was a background I wanted to use since I first saw it. Since we were in the area it was a perfect time to stop by. I love Julia's look and the feel of the background.
Good morning everyone. Featured today is the first series of which for me is the beginning of "bird season". With bug season essentially over as far photo subjects, any outdoor photo activities will now be dedicated to mostly birds.
First up is the female Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis). A very common songbird. So much so it's the official State Bird of Indiana...as it is in six other States since they can be common as dirt. The Cardinal is a year around resident and it's not unusual to see a dozen or so in the yard at the same time.
As for these photos, they're a combination of adult female Cardinals and juvenile females. Cardinals typically have 2 - 3 broods per year, sometimes 4, so it's common to see young birds in late summer - early Fall. As for pics of the brilliantly colored male...I'll post a separate series at a later date.

Downtown Castle Rock is dressed up as if going to the ball of the season. There are lights that stretch like a canopy above the main street as you drive under it and trees that twinkle at you along the street. These tiny lights were some of the ones twinkling at me across the street from the coffee house strung over and around the trees in an outdoor eating area. The people sitting in the outdoor area looked at me a little funny as I circled the group of trees taking pictures;) I was enthralled with the tiny red berries on this tree embraced by the hundreds of tiny bokeh bouncing from the smiling lights. The magic of the season is noticing the small details, making more out of less, enjoying the simple as something magical. Looking forward to going lighting tomorrow evening, there’s some gorgeous homes around here that I am excited to enjoy. Hope everyone is having a special weekend!:)
