I listed the planter and water feature separately, because there are several things I want to add to the foyer room box. I'm planning a coat rack, lights that really work, a bench, artwork, and possibly a potted plant or an umbrella stand.
This planter is the first large one I've done with real stone. I did a small planter for my personal diorama with white stone the size of miniature bricks, but this is stone veneer used for back splash type home improvement. I thought it would be harder to cut, but it wasn't too bad. I like the look and texture of the real stone, so I think I will use it again. It's pricey; about $20 a sheet, and I used nearly all of one sheet on this planter, but it's worth it to get a realistic look.

While I think there are few among us who won't miss the likes of Pizza Om Mow Mow and Burger Invasion (kidding of course), I also think Paradise Pier is an area of Disney California Adventure that has now turned a corner. I can't speak to the quality of Ariel's Undersea Adventure, and I've avoided reading early reviews and viewing photos, but having an omnimover attraction is huge for the park as a whole.
There is still work to be done in Paradise Pier, to be sure, but its Victorian Pier influences make it a start contrast to the crackpot Din-o-rama at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Paradise Pier is a great place to get some ice cream, walk around, and just soak up the ambiance. It truly is "fun in the sun for everyone!"
As for the shot, this was taken just after the golden hour, at a time that some people call the "blue hour" (I swear, there are way too many names for all the periods of time during the day). While it does not appear this vividly blue to the human eye, it does photograph this way. I actually backed off of the blue saturation a tad in post processing.

Yay! My night photograph, so eloquently titled "slushy popcorn" was featured on the back cover of TAG Magazinein their premiere online issue.
Every garden should have one, although I'm not so sure I'd want one that could wash my house away...
*The Candaba Viaduct is a 5 km (3 mi). bridge passing over the Candaba Swamps in the North Luzon Expressway.The Candaba viaduct is raised over the Candaba swamp which keeps the highway open to traffic, even when the swamp gets flooded during the rainy season. It has a very nice view of Mt. Arayat, which is the lone mountain in Central Plain.

The galaxy featured in this image from NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope has a shape unlike many of the galaxies familiar to Hubble. Its thousands of bright stars evoke a spiral galaxy, but it lacks the characteristic ‘winding’ structure. The shining red blossoms stand out as well, twisted by clouds of dust – these are the locations of intense star formation. The galaxy also radiates a diffuse glow, much like an elliptical galaxy and its core of older, redder stars. This galactic marvel is known to astronomers as NGC 1156.
NGC 1156 is located around 25 million light-years from Earth, in the constellation Aries. It has a variety of different features that are of interest to astronomers. A dwarf irregular galaxy, it’s also classified as isolated, meaning no other galaxies are nearby enough to influence its odd shape and continuing star formation. The extreme energy of freshly formed young stars gives color to the galaxy, against the red glow of ionized hydrogen gas, while its center is densely packed with older generations of stars.
Hubble has captured NGC 1156 before. This new image features data from a galactic gap-filling program simply titled “Every Known Nearby Galaxy.” Astronomers noticed that Hubble had observed only three quarters of the galaxies within just over 30 million light-years of Earth in sufficient detail to study the makeup of the stars within them. They proposed that in between larger projects, Hubble could take snapshots of the remaining quarter, including NGC 1156. Gap-filling programs like this ensure the best use of Hubble’s valuable observing time.
