This is a photograph from Feature Show Falls in WA state. This is a very popular destination due to its impressive waterfall and its easy access. I was back in town for a few days, and decided to get up early and head out to see the waterfall with my dad in the early morning. We were able to get there when it was still a little dark, and hiked up to the waterfall in the early light. We were fortunate enough to catch it when the light was just starting to hit the waterfall, making it glow! It gave the image a super soft, almost magical feel to it. Great memories with my dad! :)

Prominently featured here is my multi-purpose bird stand doubling as paint can support and, as seen in this image, Coyote Peanut Dispenser. It serves each of these functions equally well with no required scheduled maintenance intervals. Pretty sure that our coyote doesn’t care about any of these features. And just to state the obvious here, these peanuts are not meant for him but really intended for the Blue Jays and Magpies. Crows, as well. I really should put up a sign on the stand so that I don’t have to explain this each and every time.

What is most impressive about this shot is something that can’t be seen but is a prominent part that allowed this shot to be taken. No, it’s not the extremely clean window glass although that is also a part of it. It is the fact that I was able to calm Misha (black dog) down enough to not scare the coyote away - they are extremely skittish even more so than the crows. So, yes, watching countless of the Dog Whisperer shows featuring Cesar Millan finally paid off. Thank you Cesar.

It’s obvious that this is a severe case of peanuts on the brain.

This is the Smith Interpretive Center / Greenhouse. It originally was administrative offices and laboratory/greenhouse.

Now it serves its special function as an interpretive center and a greenhouse.

"Crude masonry and rustication characterize the initial architecture at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum. The Smith Building, the arboretum’s original visitor center and administration building, designed by Thompson and built by local contractor and mason Jack Davey in 1925–1926, is sited on the canyon floor. I haven't been here since I was a child. I consider it more of a walk rather than a hike. But it is incredibly interesting. Especially for photography. My Grandfather - Joseph Harris - was the Superintendent of Col. Thompson's Miami Inspiration Mines.

Featuring Miss Aniela..It is so much fun photographing her because she is so aware of the camera and how she looks in front of it, and what it is like to work behind it as well. I told her about this image, told her to look off into the distance, and she fell so naturally into a pose. I had another person in this but in the end felt that it was too distracting and cluttered so that detail didn't make the cut.

I have really been trying to push myself lately and shoot things that perhaps I would not have a bit ago. I have been trying to shoot the sky and gain more knowledge in that area.

This was hugely inspired by a Snuggle Fabric Softener commercial I saw when I was a child. It featured a woman next to her house on top of a hill hanging her super soft laundry on the clothes line. I remember thinking how badly I wanted to live there. I thought it looked like the nicest place on earth, and I still feel that way. However, I've always enjoyed thinking about that commercial in a darker, more ominous way...so this is the result of those visions.

Miss Aniela's title would have been: "Waiting for Teddy" :-D

I had the pleasure to travel to San Francisco this summer with my family. It's such a beautiful city and there are so many wonderful picturesque locations to choose from, truly a photographer's paradise. Since I hadn't been there in 10 years, I decided to reshoot several of the famous landmarks, the Golden Gate Bridge being my main interest as I had never seen it without tons of fog. During the few days I was there, the weather was unseasonably warm and again, thick layers of fog blanketed the bridge nearly every day, almost completely blocking out the sunsets. On the last evening before we had to leave, I decided to make the trek out to Fort Point for one of the many postcard views. Just as I got there, as if on queue, the fog began to lift as the sun went down. I ran (literally) up and down the beach to try and find the best location and fired off several sets. The sunset was amazing... Orange to purple to blue... I had never seen anything quite like it and had a hard time getting back behind the camera as I just wanted to sit there and soak it all in. When I got back home, this was my favorite of the bunch as it really captured the full color gradient of the sunset that had been enhanced by the lifting fog. In addition, I really liked how the last few rays of sunlight poked through and highlighted the trees over on the left, with the one solo tree on top of the hill almost perfectly framed by the bridge arch. The sailboat was a total bonus and couldn't have sailed through at a better time.

About the shot, this is an HDR composed of 9 different exposures to cover the full dynamic range of color in the magnificent sunset as well as the famous red color of the bridge. The longer exposures in the set did a great job of capturing the motion in the waves as they crashed against the rocky shoreline. Once the 9 shots were stitched together, I just did some standard post processing in Photoshop (curves, contrast, sharpening).

Sorry to all my Flickr friends who haven't seen much of me lately. Work has been full of unexpected changes and has taken much of my focus recently. The good news is that I've been out on several shoots over the summer and have at least 20 sets to still sift through and process. I'll post them over the coming weeks. I should be back in full swing and look forward to catching up on my contacts' streams and going through the hundred+ friend requests I've received recently. Please be patient if I don't get to you right away or comment on every image but please know that I enjoy going through everyone's streams and taking time to appreciate all your wonderful work.
