A few weeks ago, I took this photo while taking an early evening walk around Vandusen Botanical Garden. Although I do not like cool temperatures, I do love the changing colours in the leaves during autumn. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Groundbreaking for Miami-Dade College's Wolfson Building 1 occurred in 1971, and the building was completed in 1973. The campus itself first opened in 1970, with classes initially held in downtown storefronts while its permanent facility was being constructed.
Hilario Candela was the architect of Miami-Dade College's Wolfson Building 1. As a Cuban-born American architect, he designed key Brutalist-style buildings for several of the college's campuses, including Wolfson.
Candela was a key member of the architectural firm Pancoast, Ferendino, Grafton & Skeels, which designed the initial buildings for the North and Kendall campuses in the 1960s.
His signature "tropical Brutalist" style, with its use of raw concrete, is a defining feature of the Wolfson Campus architecture.
In addition to his work for Miami-Dade College, Candela is also known for designing the iconic Miami Marine Stadium.
Miami-Dade College's Wolfson Building 1 was designed in the Brutalist style, specifically a regional variant referred to as "tropical Brutalism".
Elements of this architectural style as seen in the Wolfson Campus include:
Raw concrete: The buildings prominently feature exposed concrete, emphasizing the material's raw, unadorned nature.
Massive, geometric forms: Brutalist buildings are known for their blocky and monolithic appearance. Architect Hilario Candela, who designed the Wolfson Campus, referred to his vision as "a small city of interconnected geometric masses".
Function over form: In keeping with Brutalist ethos, the building's design emphasizes its function as a modern educational institution.
Adaptation to the Miami climate: In this "tropical Brutalist" interpretation, the buildings use covered walkways and strategically placed open spaces to provide constant shade and cover from the rain.

I am featured as a part of an article on Flickr in the March issue of What Digital Camera magazine. I was thrilled when approached about doing an interview for the feature. Now, seeing the results, I am filled with emotions- happiness, amazement, shock and joy (just to name a few). It is still hard for me to believe and I can’t wait to get a ‘real’ copy in my little hands! Being in a magazine is a lifelong dream for me and I am so excited to share this experience with me Flickr friends and fans. Without all of you this would have remained only a dream! I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for helping to make this girl’s dream a reality!
I copied the text below for those of us who do not have superhero eyes. I hope some of you enjoy learning a little more about me.

"Carolina is a graphic artist and self-confessed 'computer geek' who has one of the most unusual Flickr photostreams, in that all of the photographs are of her. Her stunning looks and often provocative poses has also made it one of the most visited too, with nearly three million views. It isn't an original idea of course, but what elevates Carolina's work is the skill and artistry involved in their creation.
'I love having my photo taken' confesses Carolina, who discovered Flickr through a friend. 'In the beginning I thought it would be fun to post photos of myself wearing my collection of Juicy Couture clothing. After my photos began to get more popular I started pursuing a lifelong dream of modeling. I grew up in a family that was always taking photos and I have always loved being on both sides of the camera'
Carolina studied photography at college, and is an avid consumer of fashion photography. Some of her pictures are self-portraits but most are a collaboration with her partner Allen. 'We work well together,' she continues. 'I come up with most of the ideas, including styling, locations and poses. I also do any Photoshop post processing. Allen is great at directing and shooting.'
Carolina is very prolific. 'I like to post a new photo everyday. It keeps me motivated. My mind is always thinking of new ideas. At weekends we go out to locations I've thought of during the week.'
Carolina and Allen use an Olympus E1 and E500. 'I love the Four-Thirds system and have several lenses,' she enthuses. 'We are also lucky enough to have a studio in our home, with both continuous and flash lighting systems, and a 10ft backdrop which is kept erected all of the time, as if it were furniture. That motivates us for those unplanned shots too.'"

The Hotel Breakwater South Beach is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Miami’s Art Deco Historic District, celebrated for its symmetrical design and iconic neon-lit vertical signage.
Design: The hotel was designed in 1936 (some records cite construction completion in 1939) by Yugoslavian architect Anton Skislewicz.
Style: It is a prime example of Streamline Moderne, a late Art Deco style characterized by clean lines, aerodynamic curves, and archetypal symmetry.
Signature Features: The building features a prominent central tower with an electric-blue sign that serves as a beacon on Ocean Drive. It originally included etched plate glass windows depicting tropical Florida scenes like flamingos and palm trees.
Post-War Boom: After serving as a training ground for military personnel during World War II, the hotel became a central part of the bustling Ocean Drive tourist scene in the mid-1940s.
Iconic Photoshoot: In the early 1980s, the rooftop terrace hosted Bruce Weber’s famous Calvin Klein Underwear photoshoot, an event credited with helping bring international attention back to the then-fading Art Deco District.
Historic Designation: In 1979, the hotel became part of the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing structure to the Miami Beach Architectural District.
Renovation: After falling into disrepair, the property was extensively renovated in 2011 by the Nakash family (founders of Jordache Jeans). The restoration combined the original Breakwater building with its neighbor, the Edison, into a 99-room boutique hotel.
Recent Developments: As of January 2026, the hotel continues to operate as a central feature of South Beach, though it recently faced financial shifts, including reports of a loan default in late 2025.

I experiment shooting lots of film and last year I made a video tutorial on how to shoot infrared film using ilford sfx. I sent a link to Ilford not expecting a response. Months later I received a reply saying they loved the video and invited me to write an article for their online magazine. Ilford has a strong heritage and was founded before even Kodak. I put a lot of work in that video shooting and editing it meticulously to see if I could get it to rank on the first page of Google and make it as entertaining as possible but I didn't expect ilford to really check it out. It's a huge privilege to be invited by them and that they gave me a blank slate to write whatever I wanted. the best way I can describe it is like a skateboarder being invited by the x games to do commentating. You're welcome to check out the article. And much respect to Ilford for highlighting creators working hard but may not have gotten noticed otherwise.

During the ‘naughties’ I paid a few visits to Crosshaven on the west side of Cork Harbour as it offered a good location for ship photography.
Located above Crosshaven is the impressive bastion of Camden Fort Meagher.
Today it is a museum and tourist attraction which I must visit when I get to return to Cork. However, back then it was an abandoned site which was firmly locked up with two substantial gates one each side of a bridge over a very deep, dry moat.
However, when I visited on July 29, 2006 both the outer and inner pedestrian gates were open!
There was no sign of life.
I couldn't resist the temptation to take a quick look inside!
However, being aware that should the gates be closed and locked I would have no means of escape and having left my mobile phone in my car I would have had no means of summoning help.
Hence, I only spent about 10 minutes inside and didn’t wander far beyond the view of the entrance.
In the early 2000s this historic site faced and uncertain future but by the 2013 when I sailed past on the MV BOUDICCA restoration was clearly underway. I was pleased to see it featured in a recent episode of UKTV Play’s Underground Worlds.
A Short History of Fort Meagher
Fort Meagher was originally constructed by the British Military along with other coastal defences in the Cork Harbour area during the Napoleonic Wars. During the British rule the fort bore the name Fort Camden - after the second Early of Camden, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland in 1795. It occupies a 60 acre site 200 feet above sea level.
Fort Meagher is situated on the west side of the entrance to Cork Harbour. On the opposite side of the entrance lies Fort Davis (Fort Carlisle) which is still used by the Irish Army.
Between 1850 and 1865 the fort served as a convict prison. It was returned to military use being extended and extended present size during the period 1875 to 1880 using both contract and convict labour from the nearby Spike Island convict prison.
During this extension 30 additional guns were installed
A narrow gauge railway was installed to handle torpedoes in the 1890s, remains of the tracks are visible down on the quay.
There is a tunnel engineered to house a torpedo system invented by Louis Philip Brennan on the site as well as other extensive underground tunnels and a large underground magazine
Along with other military bases in the Cork Harbour area the British garrison remained 1938. However with war clouds looming in Europe and the presence of the British military threatening Irish neutrality the British withdrew on July 11, 1938 from Cork Harbour, along with the other "Treaty Ports", and they were handed over to the then Irish Free State Army.
The Irish Army renamed the fort after Thomas Francis Meagher. Meagher was born in the City of Waterford, Ireland, in 1823. He was educated at Stonyhurst College, in Lancashire, England and played a key part in the Young Ireland Rebellion in 1848.
After the rebellion he was sentenced to transportation to a penal colony in Tasmania from where he escaped to the United States of America.
He fought on the Union side in the American Civil War rising to the rank of Brigadier General, following the war he became Governor of Montana and died in a drowning "accident" in 1867.
Fort Meagher was occupied by the army during "The Emergency" as WWII is often referred to in Ireland. Following the war it was used by the Irish Naval Service.
In 1989 the fort was sold to Cork County Council. It is now a museum and open April to October each year.

Good morning everyone and Happy Feathery Friday. Featured today is the Myrtle Warbler (Dendroica coronata coronata). A bird I see only in the spring and fall as it migrates through to either its summer breeding grounds up north, or south of here where it winters.
It's a small bird measuring between 4.7–5.5 inches (12–14 cm) in length with a wing span of 7.5–9.1 inches (19–23 cm) and weighing around 0.4–0.5 ounces (12–13 grams). It's about the same size as a a Black-capped Chickadee.
All the photos were taken at the birdbath where the birds stopped for a drink, which doesn't make for the most interesting series of pics, but it was the only photos I could get of them. All are also in their winter plumage. As a result, I took the liberty to post in the comment section a pic taken back in the spring of 2008 of a male in it's summer/breeding plumage for comparison purposes.
I hope you enjoy this series on these migrants (legal of course) and I hope you find the commentary informative. Albeit probably more than you ever wanted to know about these pretty little birds.
Thank you for stopping by...and I hope you have a fabulous Friday and most pleasant weekend.

The Leading Man in SL Porn is without a doubt Larry Vinaver. Why is this so? We don't know. Slut Mag don't know. Jumpy don't know. We DO KNOW his name and his face pops up in a myriad of familiar adult places: pictures, movie, magazines, you name it ALL THE TIME. The man is popular. He is reknowned in adult circles. Though it would seem, Larry is making heat with his name in the FASHION industry.
We sat down with The Man in the adult world to set the reord straight on what seems to be an INVASHION: Pornstars are crossing over into the world of fashion. Larry is on the beachhead, one of many leading the charge.

The previous picture featured a Class 31 on the speedlink feeder service from Wisbech Spillers Sidings, but by far the more common power at this time was a Class 37 or 47. With a storm looming, 47372 waits time to depart with the 16.22 to March Yard just before the VDA wagons shown here were replaced by more modern stock as seen in the photo of 31187.
This was 2nd August 1983. 47372 had been a rare beast for several years when between 1967 and 1979 she had been one of the fleet based at Knottingley for working the South Yorkshire coal traffic. At this point she had been reallocated to Sheffield Tinsley.
After various periods of storage between 1996 & 2004 it was converted to become 57314 in the Virgin fleet. It is now based at Carnforth and is in the West Coast fleet maroon livery.
