Sandstone Hoodoo, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Colorado Plateau, Utah.

Before backpacking the Paria River Canyon with friends I spent four days exploring Vermilion Cliffs and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments. While I had no firm agenda there were a couple of sites I wanted to visit including this one.
Research done prior to the trip provided GPS coordinates to the "parking area" for this hoodoo and a route description to find it. The description mentioned that it was at the end of a canyon but neglected to mentioned the cliffs I would need to scale to reach it. I was determined, however, to photograph this hoodoo so I picked the safest route I could find up the cliffs, camera and tripod in tow.
This hoodoo's days are numbered. Actually, erosion ensures all hoodoo's days are numbered but this one will probably fall sooner than most. This hoodoo was once attached to the sandstone at image center in a formation that is known as a "fin". Wind, water and time eroded the area between the two and left this freestanding structure. The hoodoo has a capstone which is made of a more durable rock which protects the more fragile sandstone below from the elements. But erosion still does its work over time and has nearly completed the demise of this one.
I visited this site three times while in this area and each time I returned I expected it to have fallen since my previous visit. It was still standing, however, when I last left it and hopefully it will be around for many decades for others to enjoy.
This image is a single exposure made with a Nikon D7K, Tokina 11-16mm lens with a Marumi CPL.
With the water running so low leading to Burgess Falls, there were nice opportunities to go upstream.
I created this image some years ago. It was in a time that you could see many falling stars, only... you had to look into the right direction. Me and my son didn't ;)

A leaf from the peach tree landed in my driveway. This year, like last, the squirrels got all the peaches before they ripened.
Delayed season
When will fall get here? It’s still in the 80s and *gasp* 90s.
I changed up the bag strap on this little white bag for a more fall look. A mix of black and brown has me feeling fall, even if it’s still hot.
Vest, Tinseltown (cut from a consignment jacket). Dress, Floerns. Clogs, Unisa (thrifted). Bag, A+ by Aldo. Bag strap, Paxmate. Earrings, flea market. Brooches, thrifted or gifted.
Explored the local forest by trailrunning.
Couldn‘t resist taking a photo of those beautiful birch trees in the sutumn forest.
