I've had this faerie hanging from one of my trees long enough for it to have an old weathered look. Processed the photo with Photoshop.
Holly Faerie is a OOAK beaded art doll. She is bal-jointed and has 13 points of articulation. She is made of Japanese glass seed beads, organic cotton thread & fiber fill, ahimsa silk thread, and Swarovski pearls. She is about 9 inches tall. There is a lot of interesting lore about the holly plant, I posted a little about that on my website, if anyone wants to read it, here is the link: faeriedustdolls.wordpress.com/2015/08/17/holly-faerie/
The bridge is said to mark the place where a fairy wife of a MacLeod chief said her final farewell to her husband before she left him to live amongst her own people.
The story goes that the chief of the MacLeod’s wanted to marry a Faerie princess. The king of the Faeries, Oberon, agreed to the match, but only on condition that after a year and a day had lapsed the princess must return to her own people. So the marriage took place, and a son was born of the union, but after the allotted year and day was over, the princess had no choice but to return to the Land of Faerie.
She parted from her husband and child at the Fairy Bridge. But the story does not end there; one day the infant son began to cry, as children do. The Faerie princess, upon hearing her child’s cry, returned from the Land of Faerie and comforted him, wrapping the child in a Faerie shawl. This shawl was preserved; it is the famed Faerie Flag of the MacLeod clan, which can be seen today at Dunvegan Castle.

Staurolite: Named after the Greek word "Stauros" for "cross", they are commonly known as "fairy stones" or "fairy crosses". According to European and Christianity influenced Native American legend on the state park website, -hundreds of years before Chief Powhatan's reign, the fairies were dancing around a magical spring of water, playing with naiads and wood nymphs, when a elfin messenger arrived from a city far away bringing the news of the death of Christ. When these creatures of the forest heard the story of the crucifixion, they wept, as their tears fell upon the earth they crystallized into beautiful crosses. During the first meeting of John Smith and Pocahontas, it is said the Indian princess gave John Smith a good luck charm made out of a "fairy cross". Legend has it that Richard the Lionheart used them during the crusades to heal the wounded. Some say these are the tears of the Cherokee who wept over the loss of their homeland during the exodus on the "Trail of Tears". Others talk of an ancient race of mountain faeries who were dancing at their favorite meeting places, and upon finding out that the "Great Creator" had died, shed tears, so moved, were crushed in heart and cried, as they wept their tears crystallized into the "fairy crosses". Others say that during the defeat of the Tuatha de Danann and other faerie races when they were forced under-ground to live in the hills, the faeries around the world shed tears, made of Iron to represent the Iron Age destroying their race, in the shapes of crosses as an omen of the peopling that would destroy the planet next. Last weekend, the kids and I went to a "Faerie Festival" at the 4-H grounds in Upper Marlboro, MD. It was like a renaissance fair for kids. Fun and crafty--build a fairy house out of stick and twigs... Write a fairy wish and tie it to a tree. Maypole Dancing. Live music. Selma and Jay were even part of a play created by a fairy storyteller. I was pleased we were able to have so much fun at a fair without constantly buying stuff, so I caved when they asked to get their faces painted. It's times like this when I'm glad I have my cameraphone.
