Life's breath in the candlelight

Lost hearts in the dead of night

It's a long way down

To the place they found

Dark sun, hollowed by the fade

Our debt they left to be paid

Seen the blackness stare

Promising to spare

The chosen

Born of graves and left below

Painted ashes, painted snow

When the dark awakens

Fires of our last hope are getting low

Souls of gods and souls of men

Meet in cinders to ascend

Fate has chosen

And our fading light is at its end.

"Faded the flower and all its budded charms,

Faded the sight of beauty from my eyes,

Faded the shape of beauty from my arms,

Faded the voice, warmth, whiteness, paradise!

Vanishd unseasonably "

~ John Keats ~

It's fading ... summer is quickly fading into our memories as the brilliant blaze of Autumn touches our hearts.

This is more of a tribute to metal and hard rock in general than a single track, but I’ve rediscovered some classic albums during lockdown. Fade to Black was one of the first Metallica songs I heard back when I was at school in the 80’s and started a lifelong following.

The song itself is pretty deep, after reminding myself of the lyrics it’s all about suicide, so please don’t think it’s reflected in my mood!

Just last week I bought a cracking new pair of Bluetooth earphones that a are perfect for thrashing too whenever I get the chance! (Today while cleaning the bathroom)

I was going for the classic metal album cover look à la ‘The Black Album’ or ‘Black in Black, originally I shot a marble which was kind of cool, then I found this lump of iron pyrite which seemed to fit the theme perfectly!

Psalm 6:2 “Be gracious to me, LORD, because I am fading away. Heal me, because my body is distressed.”

One of the last of our roses, it was difficult to find a bloom that wasn't discoloured or losing it's petals.

Fading beautifully. Its edges begin to curl like ancient scrolls; but the veins still shine with color: crimson, amber, gold.

Every wrinkle, every scar is a memory etched in chlorophyll and silence. Transforming its beauty with the last warm breath of summer.

On/Off - Thank you very much for your visit and taking the time to comment! Much appreciated!

This bouquet of dried roses sits next to my computer... tonight with the small light shining next to them... they call out to me.

I have been waiting all summer for a view much like this. Clean views, a lovely fade into the blue haze over the mountains in a deep, wild valley. The sunset didn’t go quite the way I wanted, though the weather hardly ever cooperates with you. In the end, I opted for this deep dark valley shot on the last day of summer, right after a large storm had rolled through. The air cleaned of pollutants that often make up the unrelenting haze, giving way to the natural mist produced by the forests. I panicked getting to the location, panicked getting the composition, and I panicked getting the shot. In the end, after leaving the scene, wondering if I had managed to get my photo, I think I did alright.
