With the Lockdown limiting the distance I can travel from my home I've been revisiting the archive. I've always liked this shot, but have never before been happy with my presentation of it. The original was more central and the shelf that the vase stood on was visible As well as the cropping I have use a graduation to black and white, a first for me, and I'm very happy with the result.

"Every moment of this strange and lovely life from dawn to dusk is a miracle. Somewhere, always, a rose is opening its petals to the dawn. Somewhere, always, a flower is fading in the dusk."

This is a temple in the village of Parskoe, Ivanovo region. This village has a rather rich history, there are even legends about the origin of the name. There are no vast expanses and breathtaking views, here is the simplicity of the Russian hinterland and the smell of mowed grass, the buzzing of insects and the rare lowing of cows.

We arrived here in high spirits. The sun was shining, there was a little cloudiness, in general, we were preparing to photograph masterpieces. It was still far from sunset and we went for a walk along the river, hoping to photograph the temple with a reflection. But alas, the water level was still too high, and the coast was heavily overgrown with willows. Those who got tired of squishing with their boots in the swamp returned to solid ground and looked for luck with the composition there. Soon it started to drizzle. With every drop of rain, our hopes for a masterpiece were dissolved, but there was still hope, a thin strip of sky on the horizon was clear. Sometimes it only takes a few minutes to catch beautiful light. We were discussing plans for tomorrow when the sun came out and painted everything in the pink hues of a fading day. Then everything was like a blur...

My goal on this image was to try to emulate the look of a faded color photo that may have originally been taken in the mid 1950's. Did I accomplish it...maybe, I'm not sure?

The process:

-Convert the original image to a b/w in a layer

-Add a sepia like tone to the image

-Back off the opacity in the layer to about 85% which brought back some of the original colors in the image

Go on ahead let your hair down...

The sunsets over the diminutive lighthouse at Plover Scar at the mouth of the River Lune, Lancashire.

The headland in the background is the West Cumbrian Peninsula with Barrow and Walney Island at it's point.

This is a sublime little spot that I often head to for sunset, being 15 minutes from home. Hard to believe that this was actually hit by a ship a few years ago, which meant a complete restructure of the Lighthouse!

Pair of old roses from my Gold Coast hinterland garden still resonating their promised beauty. Captured indoors using muted daylight. Lady Endo hybrid tea rose variety is developed by Australian Paul Hains. Some sales proceeds go to Endometriosis Australia for support of sufferers and research.

The small bow-shaped Eavestone Lake is situated below the small hamlet of Eavestone and is one of a number of artificial fish ponds that was created in medieval times by the monks of Fountains Abbey.

Eavestone Lake is roughly half way between Pateley Bridge in Nidderdale and Ripon and is close to the villages of Sawley and High Grantley, in North Yorkshire, England

2019 draws to a close

The only bloom so far this year on the magnolia grandiflora against our house. A transient beauty, here today and gone tomorrow but so very beautiful while it lasts and superb scent when fresh. This faded view of the one day old bloom spoke to me of reminiscence and a purpose fulfilled, still showing character and that attractiveness of decay.

Like this shoeprint on this rainy street we fade away in time. for just a few moments we are visible to others ... and suddenly we are gone ... faded away ... good bye!
