My wife and I recently returned from a two week road trip through the Southwest. One of our last stops was the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, where we camped and explored.

All day long, the winds were blowing really hard, and I thought we would just be having a relaxing evening by the campfire. Around 4pm, I noticed that clouds were blowing in and that we could have a really nice sunset, so we did the easy thing, and just did a quick drive over to the very crowded Mather Point overlook.

This photo was taken looking at about a 100 degree angle away from the setting sun. I can't remember the last time I had clouds burning this intensely when looking away from the sun, but it was perfect because it lined up right over a scenic part of the canyon. More photos from other National Parks to come over the next days and weeks. Hope everyone is well!

Waffle House next door to Circus Fireworks in Florence, South Carolina. in Florence County. All sorts of fireworks are legal in South Carolina and most cities and towns along Interstate 95 have a couple of fireworks stores that are open to the public. These businesses are on West Lucas Street, U.S. Route 52 just off exit 164.

This odd little building is possibly an explosives store. There is a disused quarry nearby and a ruined building that could have been a workshop for the quarry.

Also found in ADM (Amercian Dream Machines) - this beautiful Cadillac recently sold was getting its final detailing in the shop. The added texture wall was taken in the same shop on the opposite wall and used to keep the background tools and such frrom photo. The lighting was coming from a window high above.

I hate fireworks. I hate loud noises and I hate explosions. I have not been to a fireworks display since I was about eight. And then tonight I decided - there is a challenge, I might as well brave my fear. I armed myself with noise cancelling earbuds, my classic rock playlist and a hat with ear flaps. I was fine until I thought they had stopped, pulled one of my earbuds out and then realised that they were hardly done, and the loudest of fireworks were yet to come. Because I had secured my hat tightly over my ears, I could not get the earbud back in and ended up with my hand clamped over my ear and my shutter release in the other.

Ironically, exfoliation corrosion of the reinforcing steel in this concrete is hastening the deterioration of these concrete structures. Constant exposure to moisture and salt from nearby Monterey Bay promotes rusting wherever moisture can penetrate concrete.

Not sure if this counts for Fireworks Friday but there was a loud, hot boom when the pyrotechnics were let off!

This is cropped from the original. The bigger sensor of the Nikon D700 gives me more creative choices in cropping with more detail captured. Here you see both the fire and water surrounding the car as it jumps over the barrels.
