The Home Guard Stourehouse is basically a brick built shed about 10ft by 14ft in size with a slightly overhanging flat concrete roof, an entrance in the front wall with two ventilation bricks either side and two opening windows in the rear. They were often built in pairs standing side by side (Norwich Railway Station had a pair in tandem) the idea being to store explosives and inflammables separately as per the Army Council instructions in 1941.
They were normally sited near Home Guard Headquarters, Drill Halls and defended positions holding explosives, spigot mortars, Smith Guns, Northover Projects and small arms with ammunition.

The sound of the band was soon lost to the clapping, church bells and the giant firework tower that was soon lighted and relighted over and over again in several stages. Minutes and minutes passed as each stage of the firework tower flared up, and burned down.
