Explosion
1944
Oil on canvas
33 x 23.5 cm (13 x 9 1/4 in)
Red flames break through Amorsolo's typically idyllic blue sky in this oil painting created during World War II. The energy of the painting lies in the explosion cloud, marked by thick impasto, which glows against the darkened city. On the bottom right, the canvas is signed "Manila 5:20 p.m. September 21, 1944."
Literature: Roces, Alfredo R., Amorsolo, Manila: Filipinas Foundation, 1975, p. 116.

My 1st BACON EXPLOSION. It wasn't as pretty as the ones I saw here, 67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=325570
Nevertheless it still tasted pretty good. I got a little carried away with my sausage. I used 3 lbs when I should have stayed with 2 lbs. I learned from my mistakes and so if there is a next time I will know what to improve on. I used three cheese, year old cheddar, extra sharp cheddar, and smoked Gouda. I cooked up 4 slices of bacon and broke it up and along with the cheese rolled it up in the sausage.
I used mild and hot sausage. I seasoned the sausage with some cilantro, Sweet Mesquite seasoning a little cinnamon and some Kentucky Bourbon. I sprinkled some brown sugar & smoked paprika and a little home made barbq sauce on the bacon before I put the sausage on top of it. After I rolled her all up, I slathered it all over with my homemade bourbon and molasses BarBQ sauce. Then I smoked it a little more than 4 hours. Now I didn't say she would be pretty, but she sure was good. I will work on making her pretty next time, lol.

Cattails are wetland plants with a unique flowering spike, flat blade like leaves that reach heights from 3 to 10 feet. They are one of the most common plants in large marshes and on the edge of ponds. Two species are most common in US: broad leaved cattail (T. latifolia - Typha latifolia (bulrush, common bulrush, broadleaf cattail, common cattail, great reedmace, cooper's reed, cumbungi) is a perennial herbaceous plant in the genus Typha & another "T. latifolia" definition: a tall marsh plant with cylindrical seed heads that explode when mature shedding large quantities of down.) and narrow leaf cattail (T. angustifolia - The geographic range of Typha angustifolia overlaps with the very similar species Typha latifolia (broadleaf or common cattail). T. angustifolia can be distinguished from T. latifolia by its narrower leaves and by a clear separation of two different regions (staminate flowers above and pistilate flowers below) on the flowering heads.). Under the right conditions, cattails can grow and spread vigorously. The pollinated flowers develop into fluffy seed heads, blowing across a pond in autumn breezes. Just as commonly, cattails spread through their root system. The thick, white roots, called rhizomes, grow underground near the edge of ponds and in shallow swales. As long as the water is not too deep, the cattails feast off the open sunshine and abundant water, storing a large amount of food in the root system. In fact, cattails at the edge of pond can grow faster than fertilized corn in a field! The dense foliage and debris from old growth makes it very difficult for competing plant species to grow.
Cattails prefer shallow, flooded conditions and easily get established along a pond shoreline or in waters one to 1.5 feet or less in depth. When unimpeded however, the cattail beds will expand and can extend their hefty rhizomes well out into pond surface, actually floating above much deeper waters. Cattails need to have “wet feet” during most of the growing season. Many pond owners view cattails with uncertainty because they have a tendency to grow in thick, nearly impenetrable stands, blocking the view of open water and raising the concern that they will take over and cover a pond.
Below is an exerpt from: www.wildmanstevebrill.com/Plants.Folder/Cattails.html -
"The cattail is one of the most important and common wild foods, with a variety of uses at different times of the year. Whatever you call it, a stand of cattails is as close as youíll get to finding a wild supermarket.
You can easily recognize a cattail stand: White, dense, furry, cigar-shaped overwintered seed heads stand atop very long, stout stalks, even as the young shoots first emerge in early spring. No longer edible once the pollen is gone, the brown flower heads make good "punks," supporting a slowly-burning flame, with a smoke that drives insects away. The fluffy, white seeds were once used for stuffing blankets, pillows and toys. The Indians put them inside moccasins and around cradles, for additional warmth. After hours of collecting, I once made a cattail fluff pillow, but something went wrong: My girlfriend sewed shut a pillowcase with the white seeds inside, and I went to sleep happy, on the softest pillow I ever felt. This mood quickly vanished when I awoke at 2:00 AM:. My head was on top of the pillow, but my right arm had "disappeared." I discovered it beneath the pillow. It had "fallen asleep" so badly, it seemed disembodied. After I shook it awake, I wished I hadnít. There was a row of hives from one end of the arm to the other, wherever it had pressed into the pillow. They itched so badly, it seemed to require a forest of jewelweed to quell the torment. I had never heard of this reaction in any of the books that lavishly praise cattail fluff as stuffing! Confident that my "allergy" was unique, I handed the pillow to my girlfriend the next evening. She agreed that it was the best pillow everóuntil the next morning, when the hives marred her once-beautiful face. She was so angry, she wouldn't talk to me until the hives healed. I learned later that my mistake had been not using thick batting material to enclose the stuffing."

Smoke rises from buildings in Oslo, Norway, at the scene of a large explosion which tore apart several buildings Friday July 22, 2011. A loud explosion shattered windows Friday in several buildings including the government headquarters in Oslo which includes the prime minister's office, injuring several people. Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg is safe, government spokeswoman Camilla Ryste told The Associated Press. The cause of the blast is not yet known. (AP PHOTO / Aleksander Andersen, Scanpix) NORWAY OUT
Propane station explosion in Toronto, August 10, 2008. At the end of Gilley Road.
These were taken from the north east of the blast, at around 4:30am. There was a very loud sound of gas excaping almost like a jet engine starting. Tanks were still exploding every minute and I could clearly see large pieces of glowing red tanker flying 100 feet or more and landing in the lot and buildings to the north. Looking at these pictures I wonder if perhaps I was too close.
Blues Explosion (formerly The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and sometimes abbreviated JSBX) is a New York based band, made up of members Jon Spencer (vocals, guitar), Judah Bauer (guitar, vocals) and Russell Simins (drums).
Originally from Hanover, New Hampshire, Jon Spencer (born Jonathan) moved to Washington, DC where he fronted the band Pussy Galore. After that band's breakup, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion formed in 1990 in New York City. Members played in bands including The Honeymoon Killers (not to be confused with the avant garde Belgian artists on the Crammed Discs label), Crowbar Massage, and Boss Hog prior to the formation of the Blues Explosion.
They signed to Matador Records shortly after and have gathered a large cult following.
While on tour in July 1999, the band's tour van was broken into in Vancouver, Canada. A large amount of gear, including several microphones, amps, compressors, and other equipment, as well as Spencer's original 1962 Moog Vanguard theremin, was stolen. None of the gear was ever recovered.
With the release of Damage in 2004, the band changed their name simply to Blues Explosion.

The inside of an abandoned industrial complex near where I work. Numerous busted windows in the front of the building allowed excellent indoor photography without a trespass.
I think this was once a chemical plant. I did notice that the lighting and electrical work is "explosion proof" meaning it was designed to operate in areas "where flammable petrochemical vapors and/or pulverized dust exist or have the potential to exist."
