Today's photo had all the ingredients of potential disaster for my camera gear. First, I did this all by myself, trying to figure a way to get the Mentos in the soda and get to my camera quickly. That meant that I had to have my camera fairly close to the impending explosion. OK, so first try went wrong. The YouTube videos I watched seemed to have the explosion immediately when the Mentos were dropped in. So I thought I'd set my timer on my camera and pull the string just before the shutter opened. Apparently cold soda reacts differently than warm soda, it paused just enough for my shutter to open and close and I missed my shot. So, to the store again and I got a couple bottles of warm soda (not knowing this would make a difference). I set it up again and because I was expecting a short delay, I would just run back to my camera and shoot manually on the tripod. OK. Mentos drop, huge immediate explosion, 20 or 30 feet in the air, keep shooting, watching the geiser coming down really close to my camera, ready to use my body as a human shield to protect my gear. Result...a really cool shot. Well worth the headache.

It looks like an explosion, but it is just a dead flower. I was thinking that I should use it in a LMK competion "Abstract B/W", but I took it 3 days to early.
