Blues Explosion (formerly The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and sometimes abbreviated JSBX) is a New York based band, made up of members Jon Spencer (vocals, guitar), Judah Bauer (guitar, vocals) and Russell Simins (drums).
Originally from Hanover, New Hampshire, Jon Spencer (born Jonathan) moved to Washington, DC where he fronted the band Pussy Galore. After that band's breakup, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion formed in 1990 in New York City. Members played in bands including The Honeymoon Killers (not to be confused with the avant garde Belgian artists on the Crammed Discs label), Crowbar Massage, and Boss Hog prior to the formation of the Blues Explosion.
They signed to Matador Records shortly after and have gathered a large cult following.
While on tour in July 1999, the band's tour van was broken into in Vancouver, Canada. A large amount of gear, including several microphones, amps, compressors, and other equipment, as well as Spencer's original 1962 Moog Vanguard theremin, was stolen. None of the gear was ever recovered.
With the release of Damage in 2004, the band changed their name simply to Blues Explosion.

Failed planned explosive demolition near Eastway in Hackney. The block has failed to completely collapse. The shot shows the extent of the dust and smoke following the explosion.
Around 1985 some of the post war tower blocks were destined to be dismantled. Explosives were the choice of demolition. I have seen them come down and the idea is that they implode on themselves from strategically positioned explosives. They then just drop to the ground making a huge cloud of dust, and end as a great pile of rubble.
This particular one did not quite make it. It was one of the first to be demolished I believe. I am not sure how they did get it down in the end.

I took off this early am with my good friend Kathy (who broke her ankle the last time we went on a hike together and she hiked out of the forest for over a mile on a broken ankle) to climb Mt. Zion. We were zooming down the freeway and hit an explosion of fire in sky... One of the best sunrises I've seen in a long, long time.
Happy Fourth!

A worker sweeps up broken glass from damaged shop windows near the site of Friday's explosion in central Oslo, Norway, in the early hours of Saturday, July 23, 2011. A homegrown terrorist set off the explosion that ripped open buildings in the heart of Norway's government, then went to a summer camp dressed as a police officer and gunned down youths as they ran and even swam for their lives, police said Friday.
