DSNG 476 leads the Winter Photo Freight south past a location known as "Goblin Fire" on the old DRGW Silverton Branch. Due to a distinct lack of snow this winter, the charter trains were able to go further north than the normal, allowing for this opportunity.
Stairway of the Pyramid of Austerlitz. This stairway has a nice symmetry.
The town Austerlitz was founded on 17 August 1806 on the location of a French army camp. It was given its name by King Louis Napoleon of Holland in honour of the victory of his brother, emperor Napoleon in the Battle of Austerlitz.
Close to the town, there is an artificial hill called the Pyramid of Austerlitz (52.0904°N 5.3428°E), actually part of the municipality Woudenberg. It was built in 1804 by the soldiers of general Auguste Marmont. It used to be a popular day out to climb the watch tower on top of the pyramid, but nowadays the tower is open to the public only at weekends, due to instability of the slopes. (The monument has now been restored.)
The pyramid is still open to the public, but there is a small entrance fee to pay. This fee is used to restore the monument, which is almost completely restored.

Awe, I am in awe of this woman. She is my partner, my best friend, the other half of our team, and mother to our two daughters. I stand in her shadow, and never more so than on the 25th of February when our second daughter was born.
I don't normally take photos of people but Zavinta wanted some images from the labour room so I couldn't say no to her :-) However I feel this is an image worth sharing, a nine month journey encapsulated in one second. At times it was a difficult journey, there were scares along the way but my girl got there in the end. And she did it all with just the help of our wonderful midwife Helen and a huge effort on her own behalf.
The emotion of it all, it is hard to find words to sum it all up. There is so much emotion in this image and trust me there was quite alot behind the camera too.
Thank you my love for our beautiful daughter, I will always be in awe of you, and welcome to our world baby Erin Ceplinskaite Maguire, you are loved.
Finally thank you all for your favs and especially your great comments, you are all very, very kind.
So I had this idea in my head of flowers growing inside of a hollowed out light bulb and in my head this photo would have come out much better but alas, it did not, but it's still pretty good, I'd say! :)
Just a very big thank you to Andrew for hollowing out all those light bulbs for me!<3
Last night I spent quite a bit of time editing some things on my Flickr account, my profile, things I've said, sets, my cover photo thing and went though all the tons of Flickr Mail I had! From my absence I had over 60 people add me as contacts! Thank you!!!:) I was just getting it all ready so that it'd be good to go when I uploaded today :)
Well, there was no excuse for my absence and counter productiveness on Flickr in the last year but I'm going to give you one anyway! I was at school with no access to Flickr because the site was blocked at my school, I guess Flickr is used for inappropriate things too and without Flickr I took a big break from photography. I never thought I would get back into it, honestly but I did because I during that break I kept thinking how untalented I was bu the thing is, is that I'm really, really, really, very talented! I'm an extraordinary photographer and I will not leave this art that I love so much! So there :)

Putao (Burmese: ပူတာအိုမြို့) is the northernmost town of Kachin State, Myanmar and is the site of the World War II British Fort Hertz. It is the principal town in Putao Township. It can only be reached by road during summer (for nationals) but is accessible year round by air if there are sufficient tourist groups to justify a plane.
The area around Putao is famous for the variety of endemic birds and rare orchids, which grow naturally. Many orchid lovers are especially attracted by the so-called "Black Orchid" that can be found in the mountains east and west of Putao. Hkakabo Razi and other snow-capped mountains are visible from Putao.
Putao attracts also enthusiasts, hiking to Hkakabo Razi base camp, located close to Tahaundam.:credit :wikipedia

Living in the country, any length of hair on a dog that chases quail, is difficult to maintain. As her hearing has declined, we've thinned down most of the bulk on the ears. Hasn't made a difference.
No tricks, look at the large version View On Black. Texture added for background.
This was my last picture just before going home.
The light levels dropped a bit and | wanted to grab this moment with the outgoing tide engulfing these rocks, so I upped the ISO to 500 and opened up the aperture to f/7.1 to get an exposure of 190 seconds using my Hitech pro stopper.
I wouldn't have been able to get this shot with my Sigma 10-20 as it would have been too wide rendering the rocks much further away.
I colour corrected the picture first of all but decided to put it back to how it was as I feel the cool blue suits the tranquil feel of the shot.

►Nikon D300s
►Nikon 16-85 @42mm
►Hitech Pro Stopper
►Lee 0.9 Hard ND Grad

Post Processing
►Corrected slight colour cast
►Corrected Levels
►Added clarity to enhance the rocks
►Boosted contrast slightly
►Spot Removal for some dust bunnies
►Burned the rocks to enhance them further
►Reduced grain due to the high ISO
