This wall was used for shootings.

The Plaats (Place) was the original starting point of The Hague next to the brook that fils the dune lake that is now the Hofvijver. Later the castle and court were build on the other side. Only the porch (here on the left) remains today, the last original houses were torn down in the nineteenth century. The Plaats was also used for public executions. It was then known as The green mess (Het groene zooitje). The porch was used as a prison (and torture) center.

The castle garden shows itself again in new greenery. Rossi had presented plans with whose execution was begun in 1700, but the castle probably always had precedence. Thus, after many approaches, it was not until 1772 that a new plan was realized, after 1832, however, the park is used as a garden and farmland. After the First World War arises a "People's Park" (Max Laeuger). But now is, according to plans by Gunnar Martinsson, a modern garden emerged but which of course everywhere takes up baroque thoughts: on the castle terrace with the fountain follows a strictly structured part with lawn and lateral hedges between which is located a "Rose Museum". An octagonal pond leads to the wooded last part of the park which once stretched to the station complex.

TINGLADOS

In 1911, construction began on the Port of Valencia’s warehouses. The plans were already prepared and had been awaiting execution since 1895 due to a lack of funding and differences of opinion. Once started, construction was completed in 1912. At that time, the Chief Engineer of the Port of Valencia was José María Fuster, who was overseeing the construction of the warehouses, although the author and driving force behind the project was the engineer Federico G. de Membrillera, deputy director of the Port of Valencia at that time.

The construction of the metal parts of the deposits numbered 1, 4, 5 and 6 was awarded to Maquinista Terrestre y Marítima, while numbers 2 and 3 were built by Material para Ferrocarriles y Construcciones, both manufacturers from Barcelona.

Although engineers demanded that adornment should be paramount, the lack of budget at that time meant that the project was simplified and carried out without the structures in the design plans. Despite this, the modernist decor stands out with reliefs alluding to trade and navigation and polychrome ceramic mosaics featuring traditional Valencian themes such as oranges, grapes and other fruits.

The six warehouses commissioned by the Port of Valencia were built due to the continued increase in freight traffic. They were designed to save and store the unloaded materials, mainly vegetables and grain, sheltering them from the cold and damp conditions.

Today, just Warehouse 2, located next to the Clock Building, and Warehouses 4 and 5, behind the South Bases, are still standing.

The Warehouses are now the ideal setting to host events in a space which is covered but still outdoors, where guests can enjoy the aroma of the sea just a few metres away. Proof of this are the various entertainment events, exhibitions and cultural and sporting events that take place regularly in these premises, such as the Festivity of the Virgin of Carmen, the Tapas Fair and concerts and dance shows during the July Fair.

Breakfast with the Chief

By Dave Palmer

LOS ANGELES — Society of American Military Engineers posts from Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire held their 26th annual joint breakfast meeting Jan. 13. The keynote speaker currently serves as the Acting Chief of Engineers and Commanding General for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Los Angeles District Commander Col. Mark Toy introduced Maj. Gen. Merdith W.B. (Bo) Temple to more than 100 SAME members. He mentioned that, among the general's many accomplishments, he holds the distinction of being the only individual to ever hold all four general officer billets at USACE headquarters. Once a permanent Chief is named, Temple will retire with 37 years-of-service.

For his remarks, Temple took the opportunity to discuss where the Corps and the Army find themselves today and where they are headed.

“As fiscal year 2011 came to an end, the Corps was wrapping up an unprecedented period of construction and project execution,” said Temple. “For example, over the past five years, we provided $12 billion in BRAC-related (Base Realignment and Closure) construction; $7 billion of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (stimulus) work in both military and civil works programs; and about $14 billion of Gulf Coast recovery work!”

And, 2011 brought roughly three times the disaster declarations of a normal year.

“USACE responded to devastating tornadoes and severe spring storms, as well as hurricanes and tropical storms, under the National Response Framework in support of FEMA,” said Temple. “We are working now with the $1.7 billion appropriated supplement to the Corps’ budget in disaster relief to make emergency repairs before the 2012 flood season is upon us.”

For the future the general discussed the continuing fiscal challenges the Nation faces.

“We are operating in a more complex, less certain, resource-constrained environment which requires a more focused, systems-based approach and more collaboration to develop and deliver safe, quality engineering solutions on time, at or below cost, to our customers, stakeholders and partners.”

Even with fiscal challenges, locally, the District will benefit from Obama administration programs like America’s Great Outdoors and the new Urban Waters Federal Partnership which selected the Los Angeles River Watershed as one of seven pilot locations to enhance existing work like the Los Angeles River Revitalization Master Plan.

“The Los Angeles District is a strong supporter of revitalizing the river, with several on-going studies and potential projects that aim to restore riverside habitat, increase public access to the river and promote recreational opportunities,” said Temple.

Military construction projects also hold great promise for the region.

“South Pacific Division’s FY 12 budget is about $1.2 billion, which is about $200 million more than last year, with two significant MILCON projects at Fort Irwin accounting for most of that increase," said Temple. "Another highlight is that Los Angeles District estimates that they will award more than $200 million to small businesses in FY 12.”

Simon didn't hesitate for a second as he sprinted away.

My friend Cristen put a caption on this photo I took at my high school's Holiday Fair...thingy, from 2001. It's when elementary school kids come and we give them SUPER FUN TIMES!!! Or attempt to.

There are several reasons behind the increasing demand for the warehouse execution software in the market. It is proving to be a highly beneficial solution in driving higher efficiency, productivity, and throughputs within the facility.

Since when did tweeting about an execution become socially acceptable. Yes, the now deceased was a horrid murder, but when is it okay to publicize the act in such a manner. But by the way, thanks for the update?

"I'm a good man!" shouted Simon. "I'm a good man..."

The Town of Bedlam: Scene 68

[Yanlin] Thank you for coming. The Queen is holding court. Wait in the back and she'll be with you shortly.

[Chunshan] Yesterday we spoke with your accuser. He told this court that you ran out of his store carrying a 50 pound bag of rice without paying for it. He brought two witnesses who both claimed they saw you do it. He showed us video footage of your crime. How do you plead?

[Hung] I beg the Queen for mercy.

[Queen Ming] Mercy you ask for? Have I not already done so twice before? The first time I gave you a warning by taking one of your hands. Last time I took your other hand for stealing also. I have shown you mercy but you continuously throw it right back at me. My goodness has it's limits, and we must set an example for everyone to follow.

[Fang] *slice* I love how this sword slices through flesh like butter.

[Heng] My Queen, Tex has arrived.

[Tex] That feller was as yellow as mustard but without the bite.

[Queen Ming] Just the person I wanted to see. Are you hungry? Let's go next door and enjoy our Chinese New Year's feast. I prefer to talk business while eating.

"We're taking you in, Simon," said the Law Enforcers as they aimed their guns at him.

Registan (a sandy place): this public square was the centre of Samarkand and the site of a large market. It came to be used as the place where royal proclamations were made, public executions held, and trade & commerce conducted. In the 15th and 17th centuries, madrasas were built on three sides of the square. This design, madrasas facing each other across a square or street, is called a kosh, a "double, pair", as the building of madrasas are opposite each other on the sides of the street or square.

Janid dynasty (Astrakhanids or Toqay Timurids) 1599-1745, were the last Genghisid descendants to rule Bukhara.

Patron: Yalangtush Bakhodur (also known as Zhalantos Bahadur or Yalangtush Bi Alchin) 1576-1656, from the Uzbek tribe Alchin, was the military governor of Samarkand who ruled at the behest of the Bukhara-based Janid dynasty.

Architect: Usto Abdu Jabour.

This old pile of rusty parts still somewhat resembles bits and pieces of a car... a few moments after this picture was taken it was placed in the crusher and turned into nothing more than a small sandwich of iron oxide. IIRC this was a Plymouth.

Brandie doesn't like me very much.
