Chapter 1, "The Execution" from, "A Night of Violence: The Houston Riot of 1917" by Robert V. Haynes, Copyright 1976. Book about the Camp Logan Riot/Mutiny of 1917 in Houston, Texas.

This letter was written to his wife the day of his execution, Nov 4, 1848. He was executed for revolutionary acts against the Prussians.

Translation:

My dear and good wife, fare well! Well for the time one calls eternity, but which will not be so. Bring up our, now only your children up to be noble, people, then they will never disgrace the father. Our small fortune sell with the help of our friends. The Lord and good people will help you. All i feel rains down with my tears, thereafter once more, Fare well beloved wife. Consider our child as a dear legacy with which you have to practice usury and so honor your true husband. Fare well, fare well! Thousand, thousand the last kisses from

I had forgotten the rings; I press my last kiss on the wedding ring. My signet ring is for Hans, the watch for Richard, the diamond button for Ida, the chain for Alfred as souvenirs. All the other souvenirs as you like. They are coming! Fare well, well

Francisco de Goya y Lucientes

(1846-1828)

National Gallery, Oslo, Norway

The authenticity of this small, unsigned, sketchlike painting has been much debated and thoroughly studied. When Jens Thiis, the director of the National Gallery, wrote about Christian Langaard’s collection in 1913, there was no doubt in his mind that the painting was by Francisco Goya. Other art historians, however, were not equally convinced. An important piece of evidence turned up in 1960, when later coatings were removed from the front and back of the picture, bringing to light the inscriptions “X.9” and “G. X.9”, which refer to the inventory of Goya’s estate in 1812. Six related paintings are known to us with the same markings, and four of these paintings evidently constitute a series. Moreover, technical analyses of the museum’s painting show that it may well stem from Goya’s era. And although neither Goya’s verified ownership of the painting nor technical inspections prove that it was in fact painted by the master himself, they are significant pieces of circumstantial evidence, as are the painting’s technique and artistic qualities. Consequently, most experts today believe that the National Museum’s painting is genuine.

Goya was active for many years and highly productive as a painter, draughtsman, and printmaker, and his many works feature a variety of themes and styles. Night Scene from the Inquisition is part of a group of smaller paintings that Goya executed con amore, that is, because the topic interested him rather than because the painting was commissioned. Both as a visual narrative and as a painting per se it is influenced by Goya’s keen interest in the grim fate that befell many people during his lifetime. The museum’s painting shows monks, soldiers, and convicted prisoners in white robes, probably on their way to the site of their execution.

This was one of the drafts for my Final piece for my AS Photography Exam. I'll upload the Finished Product in future, but I also like this Photo as whilst practically identical to my Exam piece its also darker with more shadows, this photograph Also has the McDonalds bag over the head of the Manikin which the final piece does not. The Photograph is meant to represent my Opinion and belief of Corporations and the religious worship of the "3 piece suit" Culture, this is represented by the noose instead of a tie around the Manikins neck instead of a tie, the hanging macro prints of burning McDonalds boxes and the collections of items representing Corporations and their Control to the right of the Manikin. The Background was whited out to ensure the viewer would concentrate more on the message of the image and with everything brought together this is defiantly one of my favourite pieces I've ever created.

Tens of thousands died at Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. Some died from disease, starvation, and exposure, but many were slaughtered by the Nazis between the late 1930s and 1945.

The execution trench seen here was where prisoners were led to then be shot or exterminated in the "ovens" en masse.
