Every now and then I have a look through my old and or unpublished shots and find something I hadn't noticed or thought I could edit better. This is one such
Every morning and every evening this cat showed up at our apartment to see of there was something to eat. My kids are cat lovers, so this lady was never short of anything.
Every year on Mothers' Day the San Diego Epiphyllum Society puts on their annual show in Balboa Park. Last year and this year, because of the pandemic there was no show. This is from 2019 and my wife and I attended the show because she grows them and likes to see what other growers are doing.
Lighting: Lit with a Yongnuo manual flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box, hand held at camera left. The flash and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.
Other plants, flowers, fruit or thingys that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. For each image in the set, and there are over 1800 of them, I describe how I set up the lighting for that particular shot. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157628079460544/
Other picture that I've taken of Epis can be seen in my creatively named Epiphyllum Flowers album. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/albums/72157680754580643

Every now and then someone at the reddit photoshop subreddit asks about creating a glow effect. A few years ago I'd come across a youtube tutorial from Spoon Graphics about doing this. I'd bookmarked the tutorial and will often paste the url into the reddit thread so the person can see if it would help them.
I decided that I might as well follow the tutorial.
I like that it makes use of layer blend modes and smart object layers and clipping masks. And color LookUp tables.
It had started out as a black/white Hipstamatic shot from the iPhone I had been using back then.

. . . Every year the Tree Swallows and the Bluebirds compete for this nest box. Last year the Bluebirds successfully nested here, but this year the Swallows were victorious.
It appears that the Bluebirds are not as aggressive, and that they will not nest anywhere near the Swallows in our little orchard. Last year when the Bluebirds were in the house, the Swallows were content to nest in another box only about 100 feet away.
Have a great week Facebook, Flickr, and 500px friends!

Every now and then, I like to dig through my old photos to see what I may have missed. Some days, you don't see anything that catches your eye, and some days, you find gems like this. A SD60F led Q train doubles up at the south end of Markham Yard in Homewood, IL, preparing to go west at the loop and likely to Winnipeg. The SD60F's are done, and this was definitely a nice look back into the past.
Every year in spring the water level of Lake Constance increases, so that this mighty willow tree is completely surrounded by water.

Every winter, a layer of carbon dioxide frost (dry ice) forms on the surface of Mars. At its greatest extent in mid-winter, this frost reaches from the poles down to the middle latitudes, until it is too warm and sunny to persist. In most places this is around 50 degrees latitude, similar to the latitude of southern Canada on Earth.
However, small patches of dry ice are found closer to the equator on pole-facing slopes, which are colder because they receive less sunlight. This image was taken in the middle of winter in Mars' Southern Hemisphere, and shows a crater near 37 degrees south latitude. The south-facing slope has patchy bright frost, blue in enhanced color. This frost occurs in and around the many gullies on the slope, and in other images, has caused flows in the gullies.

Every year, huge murmurations of birds gather around the countryside. I've been trying all week to get a good picture of them, but they seem to stay secluded in the centre of an unreachable tree cluster. So amazing to watch them all move together, breaking off to do their own thing while others join in the flock.
