Every One, 2018
Ceramic and collaboration
Using over 4,000 clay beads created by many individuals, Luger interprets Kali Spitzer's (Kaska Dena and Jewish) 2016 photograph Sister, calling attention to the thousands of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and queer and trans people in Canada. Realizing the connection between workers hired by lumber, oil, and gas companies and increased murders and disappearances, Luger asks us to shoulder some culpability in the processes that lead to such violence and to find ways to heal.

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense,
a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.

Every morning the monks wake up before dawn and march through Luang Prabang collecting handfulls of rice from generous strangers. It's a beautiful thing to watch, although it's been exploited by tourists over the past several years since my first visit to Luang Prabang in 2005. There are signs posted all over the town to leave the monks alone and respect the ritual. As we woke up at dawn to watch this beautiful practice, we saw evidence of many tourists who were practically harassing these young boys. Before they were eager to smile and wave at me, this time when any passed me by, they hid their faces. I took very few photos of them during this trip as I wanted to be respectful and not be seen as an ugly tourist. For these shots I sat in one place on the ground, used no flash, and tried to capture most of these shots from afar.

Every modern architecture must have an upgoing element. The Berlin Hauptbahnhof has a very tall tower and satisfies this unwritten rule. Up, up, up ...

Those some heavy hitters right there:
Fred Herlich from Colorado Foreclosure Resistance Coalition was arrested in Idaho Springs during a stand off between fully automatic weaponized sherriffs and protesters and Chairman Seku from the Black Star Action Movement who has been a human rights activist for over 3 decades and has spoken before city council in favor of the poor community for as many years. The foreclosure rate in the neighborhood of Montbello has been at a rate of 56% over the last 10 years. The banks are sending families into the streets. The city made it illegal to be homeless and sleep on the streets. Anyone paying attention can clearly see the problem with this process. We boycott Tami Door, the CEO of the down town partnership, every Sunday from 3 to 5 for making the act of survival illegal by pushing the Urban Camping Ban through. You may watch her testimony here:
