Mkinvarstveri is the peak, which attracts attention among every kind of persons. You don’t need to be a mountaineer, or climber, to stand your foot on that majestic peak. Everyone can conquer Mkinvarstveri, if there are enough desire, effort, right time and essential equipment, and of course, experienced team.
Let’s start with the technical details: Mkinvartsveri is situated on the border of Kazbegi municipality, in Khokh Range. According to many different sources, it is 5033 meters in the sea level. Supposedly, in Winter as the snow covers the mountain, it “becomes” higher. From Mkinvartsveri descends several glaciers: Suatisi, Mna, Ortsveri, Devdaraki and others. From here outflows the river Tergi. Mkinvartsveri is the third highest glacier in Georgia, it is just 150 meters lower, than the highest point- Shkhara in the nation of Georgia.
The summit is covered with snow constantly, does not matter, if it’s Summer or Winter. Here you will come across boundless crevasses, which, unfortunately, absorbed lives of many people. You can get there at any time, but in Winter and Spring it is an extremely dangereuses zone, as there are many avalanches here. Also, in Winter the temperature is sharply low, and one needs special preparation and equipment. For those, who can’t dare to come against such complexity, should get there in the half of Summer, till the last days of September. This is the best time for Mkinvartsveri. During this period the sun shines constantly on those cold slopes of Mkinvartsveri. It is the reason, why snow melts down, so it’s easier to walk and also, it becomes less risky. In the first half of September, the snow reaches the lowest stage, and the risk of falling in crevice is minimal, as the main problem- snow covered crevices are rare at this time. Also, the rain and windstorm “visits” the bride of the ravine more seldom. So, most of the tourists prefer to get there during this period- the beginning of September.
But, reaching for the peak of Mkinvartsveri is not easy at all. You should be really very serious. It’s a sad story, but I have to remind you, that many people, inexperienced, as well as experienced ones, left their lives here, on its white slopes. The biggest enemy here is holes/crevasses, which you can’t notice while walking on the snow, and you never know, when it opens the doors of his heart and cuddle you forever. To avoid such things, hikers use special ropes, where is tied every person of the team. They are walking some distance away from each other, as if one of them falls through the hole, others will be able to rescue the unlucky one. During that dangerous journey you will meet many signs, which warns you not to walk alone, as the Mkinvartsveri “does not like” alone souls, and advise us to walk with our team, roped (!). Another very serious hazard thing is the thunder! Can you believe it? Well, here many lives have been vanished because of thunder. During bad weather, the heavenly powers send affluent energies to the Bride the range. So, if you see, that there are clouds gathering, or it’s about to start raining soon, don’t take a step forward and just go back, somewhere in a safe place. Don’t hurry up! The Bride of the ravine is not going elsewhere. So, just wait for the spectacular, perfect time, chose the best weather, the group, its members and try to avoid the bad things, which you can.
As for the equipment, to walk there, you must have: warm and waterproof jacket, trousers, gloves, special, mountain shoes, mountain-climbers girdle, crampon (climbing iron to ice), adze (walking stick with sharp steel tip for ice-picking), rope and carbine. These equipment one can hire in Kazbegi, or at Meteo Station.
Every time I look at this image, I am reminded of how many things in our lives are hurriedly passed by. We live in constant movement, as if the next moment will be more important than the last.
However, as I have grown older and gained more life experience, I find myself appreciating the small moments of my day. The wonders and beauties are all there for us. It is our quest to appreciate them and pass that love of life on to our next generations.

Every sunset is a miracle of nature and my eyes and my soul will remain trapped until 'the nuances of the sky disappear on the horizon!
Every single building along the street is timber-framed (even the one on the very extreme left although it doesn't look it) and dates between the early 15th to early 18th century. All are listed either grade ll, or (rare for small domestic buildings) grade ll*
An amazing surviving streetscape in a small town packed with picturesque old buildings, and Bridge Street has the extra delight that it is the end of town; beyond the cottage in the distance is the long climb of Windmill Hill, lined with fine woodlands or fields.
The Eight Bells Pub on the right has a beautiful interior, with fine beams. At right angles to the street is the earliest part, a stunning medieval great hall with a spectacular open timber roof dating to the early 15th century.
Sadly the Eight Bells is very much laid out for dining with boring matching tables and has little traditional 'pub' space.

Every so often some of these little guys pop up in my garden. Wild pansies really.... and, usually they are dark purple..not this pretty tricolour version.
Some of my regular pansies died off in the hot days.... right before we got our 'monsoonal' days ... I don't think I"m going to bother planting pansies anywhere except in my two smaller shaded areas ....ever again. Although, having said that.... they don't even do well there. Ahhh well... pansies probably won't get much attention next year.
I now have some bare patches in the garden and also some pots...I'm off to see if one of the garden centres still has some petunias that I can buy to plant in those naked spots.
Every netted bat gets sexed, measured and weighed before getting marked and released back to the wild. The entire process only takes a couple minutes. Big brown bats typically roost during the day under the siding of old farm buildings.

Every year, about this time of year, nature puts on a show featuring yellows, oranges, and reds; a riot of naturally-saturated colors. The stage for this particular performance was Split Rock Reservoir in northern New Jersey, on a perfect October day.

Ancient oak tree captured from below in a Paris park during winter. The soft late-afternoon light casts a gentle golden glow on the deeply textured, rugged bark, while bare branches reach into a twilight sky with subtle pink and blue clouds. HDR processing reveals every crack and detail in the massive trunk, creating a dramatic “looking up” perspective that emphasizes the tree’s grandeur and power against the dormant winter landscape. Shot in January with cold but warmly tinted light.
Every time I see an arrow I think of the Camino but this one is not really yellow like the ones we see on the Camino Francés and I did not follow it.

Every time I visit a garden shop I am fascinated by the mixture of colors and shapes of the plants that you can find there. I really like that atmosphere especially in the ancient shacks.
I tried to recreate that kind of location by building a barn-shaped shed surrounded by flowers and plants. The inspiration came from a drawing by a Japanese dioramist that I really appreciate.
The large tree that sprout up from the roof catches the eye and it's the leading element of the entire scene.
The garden shed is the kingdom of Mrs. Magda (can you spot her?), a friendly Spanish lady who has retired to countryside with her plants and flowers.
The diorama is full of details and strange pieces, have fun finding them. Hope you like it!
