Darling Tonia and I's vacation plans fell through and on the spur of the moment decided to do 101 south along the coast. And by do, I mean we stopped every thirty feet or so. No plan, no reservations, just stopped when evening time came on. So, on the second or third day we hit a town named Yachats and dine at a place named Ona. First off, go find Ona, OMG, best menu ever. Second, I'm finished with my seafood grill and while the Mrs. is still working on the best meatloaf either of us has ever had I'm looking to see what's up ahead.... Thor's well looks close on the map... What time is sunset? Twenty minutes, maps, how long to Thor's Well? seven minutes. "Waiter, check please!"

Every year for Christmas, our tour operator for South Africa trips sends these lovely handmade bead figurines to their customers. I already own an elephant, a rhino and a zebra. Yesterday this cute buffalo arrived.

Every so often I need a Point Reyes infusion. When this happens, I wheel out my archives and predictably the first image that catches my eye is of the old shipwrecked trawler that slumbers along the shore of Tomales Bay in Inverness.

Its medical applications include use as a pain reliever, muscle relaxer, anti-inflammatory, and as a treatment for whooping cough and hay fever.
Every evening thousands of bats fly out of Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico's main entrance at or near sunset. One of those amazing wildlife experiences. They continue to exit the cavern for 1 to 2 hours.

Every year the cherry blossoms in High Park, Toronto, draw tens of thousands of visitors. The trees themselves were a gift from Japan in 1959. A gift that keeps on giving.

Our flowering red gum, New South Wales, Australia.
It is Eucalyptus Summer Red, a (grafted) hybrid between Eucalyptus ficifolia and ptychocarpa, quite a tiny tree at the moment. Can grow to a height of 5m and a crown width of 3m.

Every autumn, Bewick’s Swans face a dangerous migration to the UK from northern Russia. Along their 3,500km route between the breeding and wintering sites there are predators, fewer wetlands and the risk of hitting power lines, but if they don’t migrate, they will be caught in the ice and snow of the arctic winter. In spring, they do it all again as they fly back to Russia.
This ringed Bewick's Swan was seen at the Slimbridge Wetlands Centre in Gloucestershire today. It will stay here for the winter.

Every afternoon when the Kookaburra family come visiting, there's standing room only at my garden table.
Every time I drive by this sculpture, the iconic song “All You Need Is Love” by John Lennon and Paul McCartney immediately comes to mind. Likewise, this sculpture is also an icon of American Modern Art with “Love” in upper-case letters, arranged in a square, with a tilted letter “O”. This is the signature work of art by artist Robert Indiana. And, if you are old enough to remember, Indiana’s ‘Love’ design was also selected by the US Postal Service as a popular stamp in 1973.
This night photo was taken with a Lensbaby Sweet 50, at the Pappajohn Sculpture Park in Des Moines, Iowa. I used F2.5 with Auto ISO (3200) to get the max amount of blurry lens effects with a fastest exposure time since this was a hand-held shot. Have a happy Sunday and remember, love is all you need.

This morning, the light was razor sharp and blazed through the trees setting them on fire. I don't remember a fall that lasted as long. The temperatures have been perfect and the rains have been kind. The trees are still hanging on to the leaves and the sun is tracking low in the sky making every day a gift. What a treat.
Every time I visit Hong Kong harbour, I get overwhelmed by the skyline. Since we were a bit late I wasn't able to photograph it in the blue hour. But this "Gotham city"- approach is also worth watching.
