A short while ago, I and a couple of friends found ourselves staying over two nights in the Scottish town of Pitlochry. In the quest for affordable food we wandered around the picturesque little tourist trap, and as we are inclined to do, went also to suss out the railway station.
In my youth, I occasionally read of a 'Yule of Pitlochry' in Buses Magazines of the era, but back in the depressing real world of the present day, I guess I never expected to see an operator of that name still extant. I would speculate that there is some family link to the business of old, but possibly legal changes in the company entity.
Here then, late one summer evening is the attractive little station yard garage with an Enviro 200 in pole position.
Class 044 'Jumbo' 2-10-0 No.044 188-1 of Hof shed heads a mixed freight through Michelau towards Lichtenfels at 19:06 hrs on 2nd June 1972. I had been waiting for a Hof-Bamberg Pacific-hauled service, which as it turned out was running late. This freight was presumably pushed out in front of it and was a reasonable substitute I suppose, although I wasn't too impressed at the time! I was anxious to move on in order to secure on-spec accommodation for the night in Neuenmarkt Wirsberg and my car, the red Austin Mini 1000 MkII, can be seen parked in the freight depot. I saw the Pacific across the fields heading south just after setting off on the final part of my journey that day, which had started out on the Dutch border near Roermond with a visit to Aschaffenburg shed and Lichtenfels station on the way.

Took walk down by the Seine on a warm evening, to escape the hoards of tourists congregated below this famous landmark.
The sun had just set, and the last bit of colour was just leaving the blank sky....
Last evening St Mary's Barton upon Humber marked the beginning of Advent with their annual Advent Procession service. Here is a detail of the station at the west end of the north aisle. The father and child are related to choir members.
A good feeling to have explored the city with my boys by day and meet up with my friend Lali in the evening,
pausing here at Freedom Square before moving further on into the old town full of churches, synagogues and mosques co-existing peacefully amongst the shops, restaurants, bars and houses, some with balconies leaning out into the street at impossible angles .... sights, sounds and smells in a mad rush to the senses ....
all life is here
a man tries to get my attention as I walk quickly by, he wants me to buy a watch I think but I have no use for time and I shake my head but he's insistent and calls after me, but no use as I don't understand Georgian anyway and that's probably what Lali told him ....
Made the hike up to Hanging Rock with Richard Hill this evening. The clouds moved out pretty quick and we were left with cloudless skies at sunset. So after the effort to hike up there you just have to work with what mother nature gives you:)
Evening clouds during one of the relatively clear days we had during the summer of 2021. Even so, it was still very hazy.
