Another from a gorgeous evening this past Sunday. The color and light on the water was so beautiful and calming.
*Very busy today, so I'm afraid this is just a post and run. Will try to check your streams later.
The alpine meadows in Mount Rainier National Park are perfect places to observe wilderness, natural environments that are not altered by man. Each year after the snow is gone and the days are long and mostly sunny, I backpack into them to study and enjoy this wilderness. Most times I secure wild zone permits to find peace and solitude and experience these areas on an intimate level. This allows me, I hope, to create images that capture this feeling.
Spray Park in the Northwest side of the park gets very heavy use as a day hike but being one of the few parties that is allowed to camp there is completely awesome.
In this image mist rises from this small alpine pond as the evening sun warms it's surface.

This Indian landscape is timeless. It could become anything in the future. In the past it was the centre of one of the most magnificent kingdoms of India; the Vijayanagara empire!
The evening sun was slowly disappearing and the light was still just about ok when Tony came upto me offering £20 for my camera. Instantly I warmed to him then set about talking to him for 10-15mins covering all sorts of topics. As it turned out Tony was part of the Manchester Astronomical Society Godlee Observatory. He told me all about how they were able to capture some really great terrestial images. As I spoke to him I kept thinking about the recent independent film "That Evening Sun", starring the wonderful Hal Holbrock and exquisitely lit by Rodney Taylor, A.S.C. which was shot in 35mm anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio. (Anamorphic format is the cinematography technique of capturing a widescreen picture on standard 35 mm film. Very much like I have been trying to achieve with my latest series of work). Why this film? For some reason Tony made me think of Hal Holbrock. Ah well here is Tony my latest stranger in widescreen.

A beautiful summer's evening settling over Los Gatos Creek County Park in Campbell, CA. Once again, I was hanging out with my cuzz. *Did you know? Walking helps you feel relaxed after a long day. Your mind becomes calm and you get a chance to get rid of all the negativity of the day. This relaxation can lead you to the next surprising benefit – better sleep. Yes, exercise combined with fresh air outdoors can put you in a relaxed right frame of mind to get a good night’s sleep. Being indoors for much of the day, taking a nice brief stroll outside certainly has its own benefits!

"When once the sun sinks in the west,
And dew-drops pearl the evening's breast;
Almost as pale as moonbeams are,
Or its companionable star,
The evening primrose opens anew
Its delicate blossoms to the dew;
And, shunning-hermit of the light,
Wastes its fair bloom upon the night;
Who, blindfold to its fond caresses,
Knows not the beauty he possesses.
Thus it blooms on till night is bye
And day looks out with open eye,
Abashed at the gaze it cannot shun,
It faints and withers, and is done."

Looking down into Broughton, and to the hills of Broughton Heights behind, from the fort on Whitslade Hill.
The evening light was quite stunning and it made the trip worthwhile. It had been pretty dismal for a while with heavy hail showers and very strong winds.

Unfortunately, things are not quite so cheerful in Istanbul at the moment.

Taken in the 'China: Through the Looking Glass' exhibition (May-September 2015).
This exhibition explores the impact of Chinese aesthetics on Western fashion and how China has fueled the fashionable imagination for centuries. In this collaboration between The Costume Institute and the Department of Asian Art, high fashion is juxtaposed with Chinese costumes, paintings, porcelains, and other art, including films, to reveal enchanting reflections of Chinese imagery.
From the earliest period of European contact with China in the sixteenth century, the West has been enchanted with enigmatic objects and imagery from the East, providing inspiration for fashion designers from Paul Poiret to Yves Saint Laurent, whose fashions are infused at every turn with romance, nostalgia, and make-believe. Through the looking glass of fashion, designers conjoin disparate stylistic references into a pastiche of Chinese aesthetic and cultural traditions.
The exhibition features more than 140 examples of haute couture and avant-garde ready-to-wear alongside Chinese art. Filmic representations of China are incorporated throughout to reveal how our visions of China are framed by narratives that draw upon popular culture, and also to recognize the importance of cinema as a medium through which to understand the richness of Chinese history.
