An Atlantic wave breaking on the jetty wall at Sennen Cove is illuminated by the evening sunlight. Much larger breaking waves are commonplace in autumn and winter.

Taking a first evening walk in Norfolk since returning home to the UK. Boy, I've been missing this!

This charming photograph captures a heartwarming scene of an elephant engaging in a nightly ritual of play with a favorite tree. The setting is likely late afternoon or early evening, with the warm, soft light filtering through the leaves. The elephant's form is captured in a moment of gentle interaction—perhaps rubbing its massive head against the trunk, or using its trunk to playfully tap at the branches. This image moves beyond the typical wildlife documentary style, instead highlighting the intelligence and personality of the animal, showing a creature that finds joy and companionship in its natural world. It is a beautiful testament to the unique and often surprising bonds that can exist in nature.

Tavira is a Portuguese city, situated at 37°07' north, 7°39' west in the east of the Algarve on the south coast of Portugal. It is 30 kilometres (19 miles) east of Faro and 160 kilometres (99 miles) west of Seville in Spain. The Gilão River meets the Atlantic Ocean in Tavira.

Tavira's origins date back to the late Bronze Age (1.000-800 BC). In the 8th century BC it became one of the first Phoenician settlements in the Iberian West. The Phoenicians created a colonial urban center here with massive walls, at least two temples, two harbours and a regular urban structure. Phoenician Tavira existed until the end of 6th Century BC, when it was destroyed by conflict.

he city has since been rebuilt with many fine 18th-century buildings along with its 37 churches. A 'Roman' (actually Moorish) bridge links the two parts of the town across the River Gilão. The church of Santa Maria do Castelo, built on the site of a Moorish mosque, holds the tombs of Dom Paio Peres Correia and his knights. The church dates from the 13th century and the clock tower has been remodeled from the original Muslim minaret.

The population is in the region of 25,000 inhabitants(municipality of Tavira) supporting a military base whilst the surrounding area is still fairly rural and undeveloped. This is now changing due to the demands of the tourist industry and opening of golf courses in the near vicinity. The beach for this town lies past the salt pans and is reached by a ferryboat that takes the visitor to the sand-bar island known as Ilha de Tavira, part of the Ria Formosa. The island and beaches can also be reached from the nearby footbridge in Santa Luzia.

The peaceful town of Tavira is a lovely retreat on the Portuguese south-east coast - luckily still lacking mass tourist resort development, Tavira remains ideal base for exploration of the eastern part of the Algarve region.

A shot taken during a visit to Carlisle. We walked around a small lake just after sunset and the evening colours were just amazing.

Heading back to my hotel after an enjoyable evening meal along the Brighton seafront. Not the sharpest of pictures but I do like the back drop so I thought I would share it with you.

These so called weeds are very invasive, but the flowers are so pretty, I just don't have the heart to kill them.

Equinox

by Antoinette Swanson

As autumn closes in

The moon rises high

Hazy, mystical light

Round and full

In the liquid sky

Casting shadows

To hide in the night

And rustle leaves

During the autumn equinox

The cool wind roams

Caressing the soul

Chairs and table from Boudoir.

A few more from Thursday nights trip out to Mattersey and Gringley.

Not southern California, but it could be. Not film noir but it could be.

"Orchids symbolize love and beauty. Every year the Chicago Botanic Garden hosts a night called "Evening with Orchids" where the gardens stay open late for happy hour, snacks, and night-time viewing. We get together each year with a group of friends to attend. At the end of the night, we find and share our favorite orchid among hundreds of rare varieties. Love and beauty!"

The alpine meadows in Mount Rainier National Park are perfect places to observe wilderness, natural environments that are not altered by man. Each year after the snow is gone and the days are long and mostly sunny, I backpack into them to study and enjoy this wilderness. Most times I secure wild zone permits to find peace and solitude and experience these areas on an intimate level. This allows me, I hope, to create images that capture this feeling.

Spray Park in the Northwest side of the park gets very heavy use as a day hike but being one of the few parties that is allowed to camp there is completely awesome.

In this image mist rises from this small alpine pond as the evening sun warms it's surface.

This Indian landscape is timeless. It could become anything in the future. In the past it was the centre of one of the most magnificent kingdoms of India; the Vijayanagara empire!

Last of the long, evening light on a group of Longhorn Cattle.

After staying at this ranch for five days I discovered two things. The first is that after shooting around 500 frames you begin to run out of unique angles to shoot a Longhorn from. This is not a complaint, just an observation. The second is the fact that where you have cattle you have ticks. So many ticks... It took me several days after I left the ranch to finally have that phantom crawling sensation go away.
