Spider crabs are fairly common throughout the world, and the largest species that reside on the ocean floor can have a leg span of up to four metres across. Maja Squinado, the European species also known as ‘spiny spider crabs’, grows to have a body around 20cm long. This large size makes it the subject of some commercial fishing.

In autumn 2024, the British Museum had an exhibition of Picasso prints, drawings and etchings.

This print is considered Picasso's masterpiece in colour linocut. He made it using the reduction linocut technique in which he used a single block, cutting and printing each colour in stages. Each stage involved destruction of the previous state so there was no room for error.

This glass prism was etched by Laurence Whistler and donated to the Cathedral in memory of his brother, Rex. The prism slowly rotates, allowing the viewer to see how the etchings on the three sides interact.

Paraeuchaeta barbata is a type of small, predatory crustacean known as a copepod, which feed on phytoplankton. Copepods are preyed upon by many larger creatures, and move in irregular darting jumps in their attempts to escape. This particular species carries its eggs on its tail parts after mating.

In the course of researching an article I'm writing in Wikipedia about Brattle Street in Cambridge, MA, I came across a relevant book from 1879 with lots of information and pictures, such as this image of buildings I walk past on many days en route to Harvard Square.
