A George Washington memento has a pewter tobacco box filled with painted lead soldiers of the Revolutionary war. Simple rules on the underside of the box lid prepare for a gentleman's evening amusement, along with a hot drink and a small pipe. The Colonial version of a box of toy soldiers.

Also this subject, I have deepened again, and am still very excited.
In everything that bows gracefully there must be an effort at stiffness. Bows are beautiful when they bend only because they try to remain rigid. Rigidity yielding a little, like justice swayed by mercy, is the whole beauty of the earth.

I'd already done a large painting of this lovely lady I spotted a few years ago, and thought she'd make for an interesting print. Aquatint, chine-collé.
