The Statue of Liberty (Liberty Enlightening the World; French: La Liberté éclairant le monde) is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbor in New York City, in the United States. The copper statue, a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States, was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel. The statue was dedicated on October 28, 1886.

The Statue of Liberty is a figure of a robed woman representing Libertas, a Roman liberty goddess. She holds a torch above her head with her right hand, and in her left hand carries a tabula ansata inscribed in Roman numerals with "JULY IV MDCCLXXVI" (July 4, 1776), the date of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. A broken chain lies at her feet. The statue became an icon of freedom and of the United States, and was a welcoming sight to immigrants arriving from abroad.

Bartholdi was inspired by a French law professor and politician, Édouard René de Laboulaye, who is said to have commented in 1865 that any monument raised to U.S. independence would properly be a joint project of the French and American peoples. Because of the post-war instability in France, work on the statue did not commence until the early 1870s. In 1875, Laboulaye proposed that the French finance the statue and the U.S. provide the site and build the pedestal.

Fundraising proved difficult, especially for the Americans, and by 1885 work on the pedestal was threatened by lack of funds. Publisher Joseph Pulitzer, of the New York World, started a drive for donations to finish the project and attracted more than 120,000 contributors, most of whom gave less than a dollar. The statue was built in France, shipped overseas in crates, and assembled on the completed pedestal on what was then called Bedloe's Island.

Since 1933 it has been maintained by the National Park Service.[Wikipedia]

some work relating to David Hume being projected onto the monumental column in St Andrew's Square - sorry, no tripod so rather fuzzy picture I'm afraid, must come back round the various spots some evening with the tripod, although as some of the projections are animated not sure that will help! Will have to try though! In this case the letters scampered right up the height of the towering column above and back down to the base as we watched

The enLIGHTen project sees quotes from contemporary writers responding to quotes from Scottish Englightenment era writers and thinkers like Allan Ramsay or David Hume, the words being projected onto buildings in the New Town (which we still call new even though it predates the founding of the United State! That's new in Edinburgh terms!). It will run from March 1st to 18th, must try to get round them and take some picture of the various spots

This is my favorite picture from Nakhon Prathom province, edge of Bangkok, in my working trip. Taken with Kodak Retina IIIC with Schneider Retina Xenon 50mm f2.0 @ f2.0 to make a bokeh background of a Buddhist listening to a monk's Dharma.

At the right side there is a door with Thai traditional pattern call "Lai Thai" the picture of an Rammayana (the war of gods & evil) that usually paint in the temple.

Old Parliament House lights up! The light show is part of Canberra’s Enlighten Festival. Digital art - such as the graffiti design you see here - is by Peter Milne of Electric Canvas. He has finely mapped the art work to fit the building.

Ahh I can't remember, I'm so bad at this :P Once again, feel free to enlighten me

Thanks for visiting. The light will automatically turn off when you leave.

The model is from a single 4x1 rectangle Kami [24cm x 6cm]. They can also be folded from 3x1 rectangles but then, the Pajarita and the Fan will be of the same colour. Furthermore, the Pajarita will have a white head, unless paper with the same colour on both sides is used.

This is just a diversion for me as I have been folding modules for the past weeks. I added this photo to show the reverse side of the model. I don't know if anyone else has folded this. Perhaps some fans of the Pajarita can enlighten me.

The Twin Lotus Temple Priestesses Antara Davis and Laurie Lotus Miller, along with a community of beautiful Priest and Priestesses gave a very special Spring Equinox Ceremony this March 19, 2011 in the Santa Cruz, CA Mountains..

I want to give special thanks Michelle Newman and Paul "Elihau" Goodman for inviting me down to meet and experience Compassion an ancient Crystal Skull and her amazing Guardian Joseph and Annie Bennett.

It was a ceremony to remember. Joseph and Annie Bennett shared how Compassion came to them after being stored away in a warehouse in Africa for 22 years. Joseph tells us Compassion is of a feminine nature and is connected to Quan Yin or Tara as she is sometimes called and is here to awaken and open the Heart Chakra.

Compassion, as you can see in the photos, is a brilliant Crystal Skull made of pure quarts crystal, most likely hundreds of thousands of years ago. We do not have the technology to reproduce her today. She is extremely beautiful, anatomically correct and have a detachable jaw, which is extremely rare. I would offer to add Divinely created. My feeling on this is Compassion was created before or during the time of Atlantis and Lumaria.

As we all came into a circle and began to hold hands I experienced Quan Yin's emanation appearing in the room. I was amazed to see wild horses running on the planes of France or Spain, Tibetan like beings in ceremony and more while viewing Compassion closely. This confirms my thoughts about Compassions ability to communicate sacred knowledge. Many of the participants claimed to have seen people, places and objects in Compassion.

I was so taken by the presence of Compassion that I signed up for one of Joseph's private session with Compassion. It was a life changing experience.

I highly recommend having a viewing with Compassion and a conversation with Annie and Joseph Bennett. In a few words Delightful, Uplifting and Enlightening.

Happy Spring May the blessings abound!

I actually experienced Quan Yin appear in the room and while viewing Compassion closely images appeared within her that revealed her ability to communicate sacred knowledge.

Poetry being spoken out live (the best way to experience poetry, really) at the opening of enLIGHTen in Edinburgh's Saint Andrew's Square last night. Enjoyed opening ceremony then retired with chum to nearby Cafe Royale for a small refreshment.

While at home I noticed my grandmother's glass jewellery boxes, originally her mother's, and thought I'd have a play with my camera. I miss her, but she'll always continue to enlighten me.

Using a similar technique to Alarmed, long exposure, zooming in and also picking up the camera toward the end of the 15". I flashed the light throughout, and I'll fool myself into believing that that added extra sparkle(!)

Slum is full of NGOs and activists who come from rich localities to buy some salvation by helping these children. These hungry eyes want to know but they are unfortunate because their educators tell them what they think is truth however their notion is already distorted by consumerism and racism.
