I've been a long-time fan of the new-ish art of projecting laser-written images on public buildings. Canberra incorporates this into it's autumn festival as Sydney does with 'Vivid' in summer. In Canberra we light up a group of buildings in the Parliamentary Triangle for only a few nights, so many people miss it. It's a photographers playground, and for me it fills the void that was created when the ACT Government destroyed the balloon festival.
It's a family night out and a pleasure to hear people ooing and ahhhing as each new image comes up, or when the images move.
the sphere in Charlotte Square celebrates another Scottish Enlightenment figure, James Hutton, father of geology. It's normally to be found in the National Museum of Scotland on Chambers Street, nice for it to get out for some fresh air :-) Again apologies for the low quality, the projection was constantly moving, leaving the lens open just produced streaked patterns, shooting on more normal modes was too dark and fuzzy... Oh well, best I could get
No idea what this was about, the NLA's projections were subcontracted to various worthy artists which to my mind didn't use the venue to best effect.

Liberty Island (renamed from Bedloe's Island in 1956) has held the Statue of Liberty since its construction in the 1880s.
The Statue (more properly known as Liberty Enlightening the World) was designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi (1834-1904) and built by Gustave Eiffel (1832-1923).
Funding for the statue came from public subscription in both France and the US.
The statue was built in pieces in France and shipped to New York where it was constructed.
The statue is 151ft 1in tall, with a pedestal and base 154ft high.

Found this shot that I never posted. I'm thinking of heading up to New York in two weeks for the weekend. I'l be directing a play this fall set in the Lower East Side...I think I need to do a little research!

Horse always give me the feeling of freedom, elegance and so on. And white horses are the best of all. I have to shoot in black and white to emphasis the elegance of such a creature. Next year I am planning to go to iceland, hope I can capture more images of horses:)
Enlighten festival was a strange beast this year, with centenary panic suggesting the need to invent much necessary excitement, not all of which was well thought out. This little vignette was as confused as most of the rest, with people sitting in front of a newly erected stage that wasn't there last week (to the right of this pic), suddenly distracted by trapezists who had just been on the stage in front of them, now miraculously held aloft behind them by two context-free, fiery, intermittently roaring balloons in all their majesty. Just as I was getting a few photos, and perhaps five minutes into this performance, the balloons came down and it was all over, so I guess we were supposed to look back at the stage.
Previously on that stage had been a couple of similar swinging artists, accompanied by an unrelated voice-over extoling the virtues of female heroes of aviation. We were mystified.
