So I just got back from a retreat with my church. It was a pretty good experience cause it was a bunch of kids my age. I met lots of people and stuff too.

I seem to remember someone wanting me to smile in a picture. Well this is more of a pondering smirk, but I'm working on it.

This is my favorite picture from Nakhon Prathom province, edge of Bangkok, in my working trip. Taken with Kodak Retina IIIC with Schneider Retina Xenon 50mm f2.0 @ f2.0 to make a bokeh background of a Buddhist listening to a monk's Dharma.

At the right side there is a door with Thai traditional pattern call "Lai Thai" the picture of an Rammayana (the war of gods & evil) that usually paint in the temple.

Old Parliament House lights up! The light show is part of Canberra’s Enlighten Festival. Digital art - such as the graffiti design you see here - is by Peter Milne of Electric Canvas. He has finely mapped the art work to fit the building.

Poetry being spoken out live (the best way to experience poetry, really) at the opening of enLIGHTen in Edinburgh's Saint Andrew's Square last night. Enjoyed opening ceremony then retired with chum to nearby Cafe Royale for a small refreshment.

The enLIGHTen project sees quotes from contemporary writers responding to quotes from Scottish Englightenment era writers and thinkers like Allan Ramsay or David Hume, the words being projected onto buildings in the New Town (which we still call new even though it predates the founding of the United State! That's new in Edinburgh terms!). It will run from March 1st to 18th, must try to get round them and take some picture of the various spots

A couple of years ago a similar project from the Edinburgh City of Literature campaign and their friends had poetry projected onto buildings at night, brightening up dark, winter evenings:

While at home I noticed my grandmother's glass jewellery boxes, originally her mother's, and thought I'd have a play with my camera. I miss her, but she'll always continue to enlighten me.

Using a similar technique to Alarmed, long exposure, zooming in and also picking up the camera toward the end of the 15". I flashed the light throughout, and I'll fool myself into believing that that added extra sparkle(!)

Slum is full of NGOs and activists who come from rich localities to buy some salvation by helping these children. These hungry eyes want to know but they are unfortunate because their educators tell them what they think is truth however their notion is already distorted by consumerism and racism.

Grooooooaaaaar! Black panter rulez :-)

The Enlightening Piano by Illumni.

The Enlightening Piano, a joint creative project between illumni and lighting design company Steensen Varming has proved popular with the crowds at this years Vivid Festival.

The keys of the grand piano are connected via the latest digital technology to banks of LED’s. When you play the piano a myriad of lighting patterns are created.

"GASTROPODIA"

From the blurb:

From a realm far away, come curious mythical creatures, their kind unseen before.

Harnessed and ridden by a pair of woodland imps, these giant hairy snails come with their own musical score, have lots of moving body parts, leave a watery snail trail and like to be patted. Bewildered to find themselves in our world, and by our strange ways, these mythical creatures are nevertheless always friendly and love a photo opportunity.

the sphere in Charlotte Square celebrates another Scottish Enlightenment figure, James Hutton, father of geology. It's normally to be found in the National Museum of Scotland on Chambers Street, nice for it to get out for some fresh air :-) Again apologies for the low quality, the projection was constantly moving, leaving the lens open just produced streaked patterns, shooting on more normal modes was too dark and fuzzy... Oh well, best I could get

...no, this wasn't a gift for Mother's Day. ha ha ha! I picked up some side work last summer and bought it back then with some of the money I earned. Can you believe this Baby Lock enlighten serger has been sitting in it's box since last August?! Anyway...for Mother's Day, I decided to bust this baby open and start using it! I decided to sew up a top for myself using this serger for the Made by Rae Spring Top Sewalong. (See the next picture for the result.) I love this machine! I can't believe it took me this long to start using it. I was a little intimidated to start using the machine since I got the most MINIMAL lesson (if you could even call it a lesson) on how to use the machine months after I purchased it--but that's another story. Isn't it frustrating when there is only one store in your area that sells certain machines and you have to deal with their awful service if you want a machine that only they sell?! Anyways...threading is a BREEZE with this machine! I'm just doing the basics with the machine now, but so far, it is very easy to use and maneuver! I can't wait to play around with it a little more! I was able to piece together the top in the next picture with this machine in no time! :) Happy Mother's Day! :)
