Specialization Is for Insects (or Why I Became a Design Consultant)

Murray Moss has been recently described as “no ordinary mortal, but one who has defined the design decade, who helps to see how we see objects.” Designing, he suggests, is an activity which involves, at its core, questioning, and is therefore difficult to define in absolute terms, one of the questions being, what is design? or worse, what is Good Design? His enlightening presentation will inspire a heightened appreciation for the distinctions between Art and Design, function and aesthetic, utility and soul.

a candid shot taken inside of a train. this mother was going home with her 2 children....it was dark inside. Suddenly a ray of light fell into the face of her elder son.

Hope a brighter future is waiting for this family.

This year the projections on the National Gallery were without a doubt, the most boring and uninspired offerings since the Enlighten festival has been running.

However, the saving grace was the illuminated walkway and trees between the National Gallery and High Court. It almost looks like an infrared shot.

Well, my first serious attempt at still life. It was inspired by an article I read about the implementation of the Right to Education Act in India from the next academic year. Many kids in India are deprived of decent schooling and lose their childhood to everything from hard labour to trafficking. Will the well intentioned but equally flawed RTE Act usher in a change? Let's hope so...

The props used here include a figure of a young monk from South Korea and a lamp found in small household shrines in India. The lamp is called 'Niranjan' [ Devnagari : निरांजन ] in Marathi.

Bright changing Enlighten Festival lights projected onto the Questacon National Science and Technology Centre, Canberra, Australia - March 2012

I think I have seen something like this before...

Questacon Science Museum in Canberra, our nation's capital, lit up as part of Enlighten Festival 2014.

Came across this knock off lego set while at Hong Kong's Mong Kok market. The stall had a large variety of "Lego" sets but I didn't have space to bring home the larger sets.

I think I saw an Ice Planet-like themed set there. I freaking love the Ice Planet theme but it was a bit too large for me to bring back.

Makadi Bay and the Makadi Palace is a 5 star hotel 45km south of Hurghada city. The hotel is a part of Read Sea Hotels and have 5 different hotels combined to one large hotel area along the beach. Two of the hotels are soon to be opened. Hurghada (Arabic: الغردقة Al Ġurdaqa‎ is a city in the Red Sea Governorate of Egypt. It is a main tourist center and second largest city (after Suez) in Egypt located on the Red Sea coast. Hurghada stretches for about 36 kilometres (22 mi) along the seashore, and it does not reach far into the surrounding desert. The city was founded in the early 20th century, and since the 1980s has been continually enlarged by Egyptian and foreign investors to become the leading seashore resort on the Red Sea. Holiday villages and hotels provide aquatic sport facilities for sailboarders, yachtsmen, scuba divers and snorkelers. The resort is a destination for Egyptian tourists from Cairo, the Delta and Upper Egypt, as well as package holiday tourists from Europe, notably Serbs, Italians, Russians, Poles, Czechs and Germans. Until a few years ago it was a small fishing village. Today Hurghada counts 248,000 inhabitants.

"GASTROPODIA"

From the blurb:

From a realm far away, come curious mythical creatures, their kind unseen before.

Harnessed and ridden by a pair of woodland imps, these giant hairy snails come with their own musical score, have lots of moving body parts, leave a watery snail trail and like to be patted. Bewildered to find themselves in our world, and by our strange ways, these mythical creatures are nevertheless always friendly and love a photo opportunity.
