"GASTROPODIA"

From the blurb:

From a realm far away, come curious mythical creatures, their kind unseen before.

Harnessed and ridden by a pair of woodland imps, these giant hairy snails come with their own musical score, have lots of moving body parts, leave a watery snail trail and like to be patted. Bewildered to find themselves in our world, and by our strange ways, these mythical creatures are nevertheless always friendly and love a photo opportunity.

capsule as a signal light, is the freedom to enlighten the world,

then welcome aboard

A couple of more obviously science related themes below.

Let this cupcake with a "kick" enlighten your senses. Mild enough for any taste bud, spicy enough for the pepper lover to desire. Begin with the dark chocolate topping. Taste the rich dark chocolate as it melts in your mouth. First comes dark bittersweet chocolate, second comes chili, just enough to get excitement going. But wait...we haven't gotten to the cake yet. On the first bite, notice the chili powder sprinkled on top of the fudge frosting, very sweet, very chocolate, very spicy. Now onto the filling...what a surprise: chili pepper jelly sweet and luscious, followed by sweetened cream cheese to help even out all the bursts of flavor. At this point a cake "high" has been achieved. Does it have the invigorating kick you crave? Is it sweet? Is it moist? Is it mouth-watering? Yes...all of the above. Now the only question is: Can you handle the heat?

Our spontaneous activity on our trip to Canberra this year was to go to the Enlighten festival. There was a mix of architectural projections of the buildings, roving performers, bands and food.

The Statue of Liberty

Liberty Island (renamed from Bedloe's Island in 1956) has held the Statue of Liberty since its construction in the 1880s.

The Statue (more properly known as Liberty Enlightening the World) was designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi (1834-1904) and built by Gustave Eiffel (1832-1923).

Funding for the statue came from public subscription in both France and the US.

The statue was built in pieces in France and shipped to New York where it was constructed.

The statue is 151ft 1in tall, with a pedestal and base 154ft high.

National Gallery of Australia

Saturday evening was cold and windy. But the crowds came anyway. Enlighten is a festival where some of Australia's iconic buildings aglow with architectural projections. The Parliamentary Triangle has come alive with light shows projected onto building facades such as the National Library of Australia, National Portrait Gallery, Questacon, and the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House.

I started the night at New Parliament House. Lots of people walking in front of the camera. Many just don't notice you, and others just don't care. Here I walked into the water stream to try and catch some reflections. Then it was just a waiting game until I lucked out and nobody was in frame...
