After picking up a single empty at Ardent Mills (the building at far right), CN 500 is heading back to the main line. CN 4724, BNSF 2302 & GTW 79047 are ahead of the single car
The empty egg cases of a large marine mollusc called the Common Whelk (Buccinum undatum Linnaeus).
Each of the bubbles, or capsules, would have originally contained up to ten eggs but only one whelk will have survived from the hundreds of eggs. The reason being that this survivor is a ‘cannibal’ that develops well by eating all the others.
When you look really close up to these egg capsules, intricate sculpturing is visible on the capsules which is probably the result of dessication once out of water.
Nine image merge from 50mm f1.4 which works out as effective f0.64 @ 230mm. That's if I got my calculations correct. Addendum: I got them wrong. I thought they looked suspect. It should be effective f0.38 @ 13.7mm. I'm sure we'll all sleep better knowing that.
Warm/low early evening light catches 211 and 212 shoving empty propane tanks and bad order ore cars toward the yard. A439 is in the distance.
'Dutch' 56036 with empties from Longannet heading west, on the Dalmeny-Jn-Winchburgh Jn line as it passes under the M90 near Kirkliston. Thought to be late 1996.
With the German border just a few kilometers away, Deutsche Bahn motors aren't that uncommon in Salzburg. Here, DB 185.370 brings an empty auto train westbound on Track 3, no doubt bound for an assembly plant somewhere in Germany. The Class 185s are part of Bombardier's Traxx line, of which New Jersey Transit's ALP-46s are themselves close cousins in the US.
During our recent Polar Vortex, our bird feeder was frequently empty. A few unreachable seeds at the bottom.

An empty street in Sant Elm, Majorca. I applied a VSCO Velvia preset in Lightroom to give the colors some punch. I like the result pretty much and for once I think this is a shot that no monochrome conversion could beat.
Some might miss a storytelling element, but I don't. The emptiness to me is one of the key elements in this shot.
