Steaming forest, what lies inside you?

Steaming forest, what brews in your belly?

Steaming forest, is this the last time I'm with you?

I'll never forget the first time.

Embedded, on all its earth,

are the feet which crossed before.

Embedded, in the swollen creek, are the

reflections which appeared before.

Embedded, here in this forest,

in its steamy particles,

is my birth, my fear, my hope, my joy,

and then: my death.

This here, this land, this is the place of forever wandering.

This is the place of eternal questioning.

This is the place of empty boredom.

This is the place of regeneration.

This is the place of destruction.

And yet, but how?

This is also the place of answering.

Oh, sweet mother what could be better?

Oh, what could taste sweeter...

than this here, this land, this place of answering?

The second running of the Devlin GAA 5KM Road Race and Fun Run was held in Delvin, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Easter Bank Holiday Monday April 1st 2013 at 12:00. The race was held as a fund raiser for Devlin Community Games and Underage GAA development. This 5KM is AAI approved and was open to competitive runners, fun runners, and walkers. The heavy rain from last year's race was replaced with bitterly cold and windy conditions which still did not deter a large crowd of participants from the local community and beyond taking part. The race started on the N52 Delvin Mullingar road and then proceeded to take a right-handed course around some side roads until the race emerges again on the N52 for the finish at the Devlin GAA grounds.

Refreshments were served in the Devlin GAA clubhouse after the race. Overall, the event was again a successful one. The race starts and ends on the N52 road which makes it a particularly challenging organisational task for the race organisers. However, everything was managed well and there was a great race event.

Overall Race Summary

Participants: Approximately 200 people

Weather: Dry, bitterly cold, with strong head wind

Course: Mixture of National Primary Route road and rural backroads with some difficult hills - accurate measurement. Almost an entire traffic free course.

Refreshments: Yes - lots - served afterwards in the GAA club.

How can I get a full resolution copy of these photographs?

All of the photographs here on this Flickr set have a visible watermark embedded in them. All of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available, free, at no cost, at full resolution WITHOUT watermark. We take these photographs as a hobby and as a contribution to the running community in Ireland. We do not know of any other photographers who operate such a policy. Our only "cost" is our request that if you are using these images: (1) on social media sites such as Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Twitter,LinkedIn, Google+, Google Orkut etc or (2) other websites, web multimedia, commercial/promotional material that you provide a link back to our Flickr page to attribute us. This also means the use of these images for Facebook profile pictures. In these cases please make a wall post with a link to our Flickr page. If you do not know how this should be done for Facebook or other media please email us and we will be happy to help suggest how to link to us.

Please email petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com with the links to the photographs you would like to obtain a full resolution copy of. We also ask race organisers, media, etc to ask for permission before use of our images for flyers, posters, etc. We reserve the right to refuse a request.

In summary please remember - all we ask is for you to link back to our Flickr set or Flickr pages. We are not posting photographs to Flickr for commercial reasons. If you really like what we do please spread the link around, send us an email, leave a comment beside the photographs, send us a Flickr email, etc.

I ran the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set!

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

If you want to contribute something for these images?

We do not charge for these images. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the image(s) you request are good enough that you would ordinarily pay for their purchase we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible.

Cutting Edge Software for Embedded Systems

An embedded system is a special purpose computer system designed to perform one or a few dedicated tasks rather than be a general-purpose computer for multiple tasks. It is generally embedded as part of a device.

Embedded systems are becoming more and more important in today's world as they control almost all of the communication, computing, display and any other electronic device that we can think of. Embedded systems span across all aspects of modern life whether it be education, entertainment, communication or science. Embedded systems are dedicated to specific tasks, so embedded design engineers need to optimize it, reducing the size and cost of the product, and increasing the reliability and performance.

Embedded systems range from portable devices such as digital watches and music players, to large devices and machineries like factory controllers and giant display boards that we see on airports.

Most of the consumer electronic items like personal digital assistants (PDAs), music players, mobile phones, gaming consoles, digital cameras, and DVD players use embedded systems. Many household appliances, such as microwave ovens, washing machines and dishwashers, too include embedded systems to provide efficiency and ease of use.

Embedded systems range from no user interface at all - dedicated only to one task - to full user interfaces similar to desktop operating systems in devices such as PDAs and mobile phones. If you have used any of the modern electronic devices then you must be familiar with the rich graphic displays that guide you or let you choose various options to control the operation of the device. The rich graphic display that you see is known as the Graphical User Interface or GUI of the device. The ease of use of a device depends on how good the interface is.

Designing a user friendly and enticing graphical interface is a difficult task knowing the implicit complexities associated with embedded application development. Because of this complexity in designing the user interface of the embedded devices, embedded application designers and developers feel the need of software for embedded systems that let them build rich interfaces quickly.

The Frank Duffy 10 Mile Road Race 2012 was held in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, Ireland on Saturday 25th of August 2012 at 10:00. The race is now one of the most well attended fixtures on the Irish race calendar. It is part of the official series of races which build up to the Dublin City Marathon in October. This race follows on from the Fingal 10KM race and preceeds the Half Marathon in September, also in the phoenix park. This year the Frank Duffy 10 Mile attracted over 6,000 athletes took part. The rain finished just in time before the race began. Overall the 10 mile race was run on the familiar but tough course around the Phoenix Park.

This is a set of photographs taken at the race by Rory Mooney and family.
