One of 200 hens from a small egg farm. The farmer used a metal leg band for identification purposes. As the hens grew, the leg band did not. The farmer will not be using these again.
The hens are part of Animal Place's Rescue Ranch program in which farmed animals come to the sanctuary, are rehabilitated, and then placed into new homes.
After treatment, these hens will go onto new, loving homes.

The Downs GAA Valentines 5KM Road Race and Fun run was held at The Downs GAA club, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath on Sunday February 10th 2013 at 12:00. The race was held as a fundraiser for the Downs National School. The parents, teachers, and friends of the Downs National School and the neighbouring community are to be congratulated with the fabulous road race and social event that they organised. There was a great family atmosphere at the event and there was a very plentiful spread of refreshments afterwards in the Clubhouse.
The race starts on the Cloghan road and proceeds clock-wise around a circuit which takes in the main Killucan road. The road surface is a mixture of standard tarmacadam and gravel trail around by the forestry. Overall, the course is flat with just two very small hills for runners to content with. This road race was the same course as that which was held in June 2012.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. The SPAR Great Ireland Run 2013 was held in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, Ireland on Sunday 14th April 2013 at 13:10 and 13:30 respectively. The Great Ireland Run is now probably the largest 10KM running event in Ireland. The race also incorporates the AAI National 10km Championships. This category is for club athletes in Ireland only. However, there is also the main field race where anyone, regardless of being with an athletic club or not, can enter and race. The elite women and club women's race started at 13:10 whilst the male club and main field event started at 13:30. The race starts on Chesterfield Avenue and takes a clockwise route - first over to the Blackhorse Avenue sid of the park, crossing Chesterfield avenue again. The race then descends down the Kyber pass before the runners must take the challenge of the famous S-Bends on the Chapelizod side including a steep climb at 7KM. Finally the race winds its way around the Furry Glen, before finishing very close to the starting point of the race.
These photographs are taken at the 7 KM marker on Chapelizod Hill. They are from the time period 13:35 (leading elite women) until all waves have passed this point (approximately 14:42). There are no start or finish line photographs.

I really enjoyed taking these photographs. It is the first time in a long time where I have been able to photograph a race I was not participating in. It was a really great experience. Despite the tough course and the horrible head winds I got so many nods and "hellos" from hundreds of runners I knew there and from thousands of others I have yet to get to know ;-) It is a really great event.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: Approximately 10,000 people
Weather: Dry, cold, with very strong head wind
Course: Completely traffic free course - all on excellent tarmac roads. The course is undulating from 4KM to about 9KM giving a real test of 10KM strength.
Refreshments: No refreshments - goody bags provided to all participants.
