As can be seen in this view, preparations are well in hand for the electrification of the Lickey Incline, the relatively short line from Barnt Green to Bromsgrove. As part of the Cross City line the line to Barnt Green and branch to Redditch is already electrified so the extension to the Lickey and Bromsgrove will enable a through Class 323 EMU service to run and will make some future 'new' destinations for electric hauled railtours. In this scene DRS Class 37's No 37059 & 605 are waiting time at Barnt Green with Pathfinders 'Devon Explorer' on the 25th April 2015. The view in front shows the current unelectrified view up the incline to Blackwell where works are also on-going and as can be seen, the bridge above the '37's is being worked on as it will also need to be raised to allow the overhead wires etc to pass underneath.

The bridge at the station's west end has always been a fine vantage point, but recent electrification works have exposed its potential for harm.

The parapet is being substantially raised.

The lineside fencing is being improved.

Electrifying undertones, taken in Vermont.

This and the following shots make a study of the mast in view here.

A square metal plate is bolted to the cylindrical metal pile, the mast is bolted to the plate.

In the foreground is a mast awaiting bolting onto a plate already on its base.

The line to Blackpool South reopened as planned after a Winter blockade to undertake major route improvement and electrification works on the route to Blackpool North.

Kirkham and Wesham station has been substantially rebuilt with a third platform for the first time ever, bi-directional signalling and a lift in the pipeline.

Model: Sarah Liz (MM#735064)

Sarah is a wonderful subject to have in front of my camera. Always playful, and beautiful. This was from our first photo shoot, and the beginning of many more!

Lighting: Bare (With blue Gel) SB800 above her, and beauty dish (no gel) on her.

See Photo 2860j to make sense of this photograph, which shows the unique base of the mast to be squeezed between Parr Street road and foot bridges.

The square metal base is out of alignment with the layer below it. I suggest this is to correct an alignment error in the original concrete base and associated bolts.

Like Westhoughton, Ince will be electrified as part of the Lostock Junction to Wigan 'add on', expected in 2017.

Northern 150 201 passes and heads up the sharp bank beyond the station on its way east to Manchester.

The railway is not the only electrification project in town.

A branch line from the tramway which runs along the front is due to open on 2019.

Pointwork can be seen in the foreground, having this in place will avoid major disruption to the existing system.

Preliminary work has started on Talbot Road.

Electric trains started passenger-carrying services on several diagrams between Manchester Victoria and Blackpool North on Monday 11th February 2019.

Not all possible services were electrified, nor were the Salford to Euxton Junction speed limits raised, but nevertheless on that day the line jumped from zero electric services to several electric services in a middle sized bang. All such trains were composed of a single four car Class 319 EMU.

note the plug ready between the legs

We explored Bamfurlong with several agendas, some historical ones outside the scope of this album.

We had two electrification agendas:

1. Can Bamfurlong Junction be seen? Bamfurlong Junction is where the Ince Moss Chord veers west left off the WCML to curve hard left onto the Huyton to Wigan line. Answer: Yes, look to the left of 60056 ('Centenary'?) in the middle distance in this northward shot.

2. Is there any evidence of Autotransformer work which we know impacts on the Chat Moss electrification? Answer: Yes, AT wires looked fresh and far more recent than other wires.

Taken from the A58 road bridge over the site of Bamfurlong station on the WCML, closed in 1950.

Whilst the crane dominates proceedings there is a lot of other kit on show.

There are power lines running through the conservatory, and as a storm was starting and the sun was setting rather magnificantly.

An HDR shot by the way, I did a normal shot, but I prefered this one. I may upload it in the future though.

It shows work to the south of the tracks at Gibraltar Farm. The exercise involved diverting National Grid wires which crossed ("oversailed") the to-be-electrified railway with too little clearance for safety.

The wires were cut then replaced by a new set of wires which passed under the tracks through a newly drilled bore.

Wrinkley added: "The north side cable is terminated about 200 metres before the overhead cable crossing point, the cable then goes underground south under the track and terminator. That track was used as access for the south side.

I think this route was chosen rather that tunnelling from the last post before the crossing on the north side because the ground in that area is very marshy and access would be very difficult. As it is, they had to make an access road to the north side terminator using timber boards.

The redundant cable is disconnected at both ends and some of it is lying in the field."

Kirkham and Wesham station has been substantially rebuilt with a third platform for the first time ever, bi-directional signalling and a lift in the pipeline.

This bridge was massively engineered from the start and has been massively reinforced since, not least because of he cracks visible on the eastern side.

To the western side is the pedestrian entrance to both platforms, complete with British Rail sign.

A great deal of work is done with schools to raise awareness of the extra dangers posed by electrification.

Here is one of several fine designs done in local schools which have been adopted in eye-catching publicity.
