Progress at Bolton.
As shown by Reg yesterday another base has been installed opposite Platform 5. A fence to separate the tracks from the car park (is it to become a car park again?) is almost finished, too.
Looking south.
Work continues to widen the trackbed to enable a fourth track to be laid. The Orangemen here are setting kerbstones around a car park beyond the new northern railway perimeter wall.
This shot was taken looking north from the trackside public footpath which runs east from Huyton station.
This is one of two bridges near each other in Chew Moor, Lostock. They both span the Lostock Junction to Crow Nest Junction line (ELR = LCN.)
Both bridges carry what appear to be footways and could possibly accommodate a tractor. The football stadium at Horwich can be seen dead ahead.
The footpath which this bridge serves eventually leads to Lostock Footbridge (MVE2/25) which will shortly be replaced to conform to modern standards for 100mph 25kV lines.
The tracks under this bridge through to Wigan will be electrified as a separate phase after Blackpool is completed.
I don't know the name of the lane or path which this bridge is on.
My guess is that the tent is more for the benefit of drying cement work than drying cement workers.

The line to Blackpool South reopened as planned after a Winter blockade to undertake major route improvement and electrification works on the route to Blackpool North.
Kirkham and Wesham station has been substantially rebuilt with a third platform for the first time ever, bi-directional signalling and a lift in the pipeline.

Like Westhoughton, Ince will be electrified as part of the Lostock Junction to Wigan 'add on', expected in 2017.

Four sets of overhead line fixings have been attached to the underside of Junction Lane bridge 100 yards west of Earlestown station.
Four sets are needed because the Main to Loop crossover also runs under the bridge.

A stormy evening at Clifford Pier in Singapore. There were many flashes of lightning during that evening and this provided additional beautiful backdrop onto the Singapore night skyline.
The first phase of the NW Electrification Scheme entailed electrifying the Chat Moss Route to enable FTPE electrics to run from Manchester Airport to Scotland. This kicked off on 30th December 2013.
Already their now eight coach trains ("proper trains") are sometimes running full and standing.

It shows work to the north of the tracks at Gibraltar Farm. The exercise involved diverting National Grid wires which crossed ("oversailed") the to-be-electrified railway with too little clearance for safety.
The wires were cut then replaced by a new set of wires which passed under the tracks through a newly drilled bore.
Wrinkley added: "The north side cable is terminated about 200 metres before the overhead cable crossing point, the cable then goes underground south under the track and terminator. That track was used as access for the south side.
I think this route was chosen rather that tunnelling from the last post before the crossing on the north side because the ground in that area is very marshy and access would be very difficult. As it is, they had to make an access road to the north side terminator using timber boards.
The redundant cable is disconnected at both ends and some of it is lying in the field."

Having gone round to the other side of the bridge to the retail centre car park there is full, perfectly legal access beneath the bridge.
This view shows there is indeed a gap in the bridging east of the new main span. What's more, the gap is being opened up by removing the jack-arch span over the route to the MOT on the EASTERN side of the bridge (yes, there's one at each end.)
Taken from the MOT centre approach road at the eastern end of the bridge, looking west.
Looking north, not a lot of electrification work in evidence, maybe there are concrete bases in the grass?.

A view of Tarbert Island & Moneypoint with the car-ferry in motion coming across from Killimer.
The ferry connects Clare and Kerry but the shortest point is where we are parked, it's the same path where the electrical cables run under the Shannon River from Clare/Kerry.

This location on the edge of Chat Moss on the Stephensons' masterpiece is a striking mix of 19th and 21st Centuries.
The crossing is manually operated by users but controlled by the traditional signalman at the adjacent signalbox.
The route was electrified to 25kV within the last 18 months.
Phil Wieland kindly submitted this photograph for publication.
As part of the electrification and route modernisation scheme Prescot's traditional signalbox was abolished, along with its remaining semaphore signals which were replaced with colour light signals controlled elsewhere..

A new Twin-Track Cantilever (TTC) leg (mast) has gone up on Bedford P4, just north of the station footbridge. This is immediately opposite existing headspan "F/80/21", the first headspan north of the footbridge over Platforms 1 & 2 (with a stovepipe arrangement for Platform 3).
Please note that whilst the line travels generally SE-NW from Manchester to Preston, it runs E-W (at one point even slightly 'the wrong way' - ENE-WSW) along the valley bottom through Horwich Parkway,
By the wind turbine at the far western end of the station car park stands this bridge. It has what appear to be original piers topped with 20th Century blocks to raise a concrete deck and modern steel parapets. It carries an ancient Public Right of Way (PROW.) There is scant evidence of human footfall on its southern, 'country' side.
.
Mast bases and 'scrapes' show up on this trainless shot.
Please note that the regularly spaced boxes are nothing directly to do with electrification. I suspect they are access hatches. The give-away for bases and scrapes is spoil which flattens the grass up the embankments where activity has taken place.
The tree-covered mound to the right has the appearance of a former pit tip (aka slag heap.)
