3472d Horwich Parkway Western Footbridge

Please note that whilst the line travels generally SE-NW from Manchester to Preston, it runs E-W (at one point even slightly 'the wrong way' - ENE-WSW) along the valley bottom through Horwich Parkway,

By the wind turbine at the far western end of the station car park stands this bridge. It has what appear to be original piers topped with 20th Century blocks to raise a concrete deck and modern steel parapets. It carries an ancient Public Right of Way (PROW.) There is scant evidence of human footfall on its southern, 'country' side.

.

Mast bases and 'scrapes' show up on this trainless shot.

Please note that the regularly spaced boxes are nothing directly to do with electrification. I suspect they are access hatches. The give-away for bases and scrapes is spoil which flattens the grass up the embankments where activity has taken place.

The tree-covered mound to the right has the appearance of a former pit tip (aka slag heap.)
