Every year, the College of Education hosts a back-to-school thank-you reception for Pullman-area educators, in particular the Pullman School District, with whom the college has had a special relationship for a number of years. This year's event took place at South Fork on August 22.
The annual Retiree Reception was held at 4:00 pm April 25 at the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts on Patterson Street. VLREA invited all teachers at the public schools in Valdosta, Lowndes and Echols counties and educators at VSU, GMC and Wiregrass. The reception is held to honor each of the local public educators who are retiring at the end of the school year or those who have retired during the present school year. The reception for retirees has been held since the early 1990s.

Our Board of Visitors pondered the Academy's motto, Achieve the Honorable, at its 2016 annual meeting. A panel of esteemed Worcester Academy faculty and a keynote address by Clark University Vice President for Academic Affairs Davis Baird helped prompt thoughtful discussions by breakout groups that reported back to the BoV as a whole. The annual BoV gathering is an opportunity to share the best of Worcester Academy with the business community, donors, current parents and students, civic leaders, alumni, and educators. The National Association of Cuban American Educators (NACAE) awarded "Educator of the Year 2012" Dr. Modesto A. Maidique, President Emeritus of Florida International University (FIU), Alva H. Chapman Jr. Eminent Scholar Chair in Leadership, Executive Director of the Center for Leadership and Professor of Management, Faculty of Business Administration, all at FIU. Dr. Maidique was FIU President for 23 years, the first Cuban-American university president in the U.S.
