In recognition of their exemplary roles as educators, Baldwin Wallace recently honored Drs. Barbara (Mueller) Sawrey ’73 and Thea (McAfee) Wilson ’75 as Outstanding Educators and celebrated Dorin Jackson ’10 and Sarah Piscsalko ’13 as Jill Herrick Graduate Education Scholarship recipients. The four individuals were lauded March 25 at the 2018 Celebration of Outstanding Educators.

Seven civilian and six military faculty members were nominated from the various departments and schools within CGSC based on their excellence in the four domains of teaching, service, scholarship, and faculty development. The candidates were observed teaching, and went through an interview process with a five member selection board. This year's military and civilian educator of the year winners were selected from the very talented educators listed below.

The faculty members who participated in the competition all demonstrated outstanding classroom instruction and dedication to the continued professional development of our students, their departments and schools, and all of CGSC are proud of their accomplishments.

 

This year's winners will compete as the CGSC nominees for TRADOC Educator of the Year and will receive the highly coveted parking spots on either side of the stairs leading from the faculty parking lot. Please join me in recognizing their accomplishment and make sure you stop them in the hall to offer your congratulations.

Every year, the College of Education hosts a back-to-school thank-you reception for Pullman-area educators, in particular the Pullman School District, with whom the college has had a special relationship for a number of years. This year's event took place at South Fork on August 22.

On April 20, Pennsylvania educators' visited Fort Belvoir, K-9 Unit to watch a controlled training demonstration. The U.S. Army Harrisburg Recruiting Battalion sponsored 24 Pennsylvania educators' and community leaders' during April 18-21, 2011 for the 2011 U.S. Army Educators' and Community Leaders' Tour to the Military District of Washington including visits to the Pentagon, Fort Myer and Fort Belvoir. Recruiters from the Mechanicsburg RS hosted an Educator’s Breakfast Sept. 30 at the Cedar Cliff High School in Camp Hill, Pa. This breakfast was a part of the weeklong events of the Harrisburg Battalion’s Army Rivalry Tour for the football game Red Land at Cedar Cliff on Oct. Army Rivalry Tour provides local recruiting stations with leads, and develops and cultivates espirt de corps within the school’s student body and staff. It also gives the community an added motivation to attend the game to support their high school’s football team. It can also provide recruiters the opportunity to recognize the weekly winners of the battalion-sponsored Army Iron Man and Army Coach Competitions. The National Association of Cuban American Educators (NACAE) awarded "Educator of the Year 2012" Dr. Modesto A. Maidique, President Emeritus of Florida International University (FIU), Alva H. Chapman Jr. Eminent Scholar Chair in Leadership, Executive Director of the Center for Leadership and Professor of Management, Faculty of Business Administration, all at FIU. Dr. Maidique was FIU President for 23 years, the first Cuban-American university president in the U.S.

 

The event also gave the scholarship NACAE "Gastón Fernández de la Torriente" the student Carolina Sanchez

Engineering Educator Kathryn Shroyer presented the Sea Perch iterative exhibit to eager families at the Cape Code Museum of Natural History Saturday March 23rd. The event was hosted by the museum in collaboration with the Cambridge Science Festival's Science on the Street initiative.
