The annual Retiree Reception was held at 4:00 pm April 25 at the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts on Patterson Street. VLREA invited all teachers at the public schools in Valdosta, Lowndes and Echols counties and educators at VSU, GMC and Wiregrass. The reception is held to honor each of the local public educators who are retiring at the end of the school year or those who have retired during the present school year. The reception for retirees has been held since the early 1990s.
LTC Stephen Lockridge, Commander, Harrisburg Recruiting Battalion moved in for the delicious food during the luncheon on April 20 at Fort Belvoir's Officers Club. The U.S. Army Harrisburg Recruiting Battalion sponsored 24 Pennsylvania educators' and community leaders' during April 18-21, 2011 for the 2011 U.S. Army Educators' and Community Leaders' Tour to the Military District of Washington including visits to the Pentagon, Fort Myer and Fort Belvoir. Longtime educator and avid learner. Lots of mutual edfriends. Lives in Wiscaaansin now but travels for work..and was in KC. He lived and worked in KC when Yanks and Royals dueled it out in playoffs. (a few years/decades ago LOL) We had fun talking about the players back then. Also, education and kids, chem, quantum computing/physics, CERN, birding, Mizzou. Crazy awesome.
The National Association of Cuban American Educators (NACAE) awarded "Educator of the Year 2012" Dr. Modesto A. Maidique, President Emeritus of Florida International University (FIU), Alva H. Chapman Jr. Eminent Scholar Chair in Leadership, Executive Director of the Center for Leadership and Professor of Management, Faculty of Business Administration, all at FIU. Dr. Maidique was FIU President for 23 years, the first Cuban-American university president in the U.S.
The event also gave the scholarship NACAE "Gastón Fernández de la Torriente" the student Carolina Sanchez

In recognition of their exemplary roles as educators, Baldwin Wallace recently honored Drs. Barbara (Mueller) Sawrey ’73 and Thea (McAfee) Wilson ’75 as Outstanding Educators and celebrated Dorin Jackson ’10 and Sarah Piscsalko ’13 as Jill Herrick Graduate Education Scholarship recipients. The four individuals were lauded March 25 at the 2018 Celebration of Outstanding Educators.

The Pentagon Memorial is designed so that the nation may remember and reflect on the events that occurred on September 11, 2001. The 2011 US Army Educators' and Community Leaders' Tour began with a visit to the Pentagon on April 19, 2011.
