A retired special educator from Cape Cod and an ELL teacher from Amherst shared the spotlight on Friday, June 19, at the 33rd annual MTA Human and Civil Rights banquet and awards ceremony.
Diane Turco, of Harwich, received the Kathleen Roberts Creative Leadership Award for her three decades of activism in educating Massachusetts residents about the safety concerns surrounding the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station. Alicia Lopez, who teaches English language learners at Amherst Regional Middle School, received the Louise Gaskins Lifetime Civil Rights Award. Human Relations Committee Dale Forest said Turco and Lopez were chosen for their efforts to make the world a more just and tolerant place. Kathleen Roberts and Louise Gaskins, for whom the awards are named, attended the event, held at the Westin Waltham-Boston Hotel.

US Ag Teachers are welcomed to the Korean Agricultural Education Association (KAEA). This is the equivalent to the National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE).
Two groups of educators from Gateway Regional High School and Atlantic County Community College flew into Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst on UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopters to take a tour of the Joint Training and Training Development Center (JT2DC) on September 27th, 2016. The educators were given a hands-on tour of the JT2DC’s 133,000 square foot facility that features realistic indoor training environments, combat simulators and multimedia classrooms. Massachusetts educators in their first four years of practice came together for the MTA's Just for New Teachers Conference on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 in Marlborough. The day-long conference gives new MTA members an opportunity to meet with fellow educators and get tips on everything from classroom management, working with parents and assessing student progress to addressing bullying and creating great lesson plans.
