Welcome to the internet home of the Fernwood Road Cafe. This beautiful little spot on Salt Spring Island is the dreamchild of Jennifer and David Shaw. Transplants from North Vancouver (though Jennifer has a long family history with Salt Spring), Jennifer and David purchased the Fernwood Road Cafe on October 1, 2011 and have been living the Island dream since.

Coming from a background as a lawyer, a custom cake designer (yes, those are wildly different professions) and years of coffee education at Starbucks, Jennifer brings a history of business and a desire to give 110% to everything that she does. Whether it’s making your favorite non-fat, half-sweet, decaf, extra hot, wet vanilla cappuccino or serving up a slice of her Grandma’s Secret Recipe lemon cake, Jennifer strives to do her best.

His background in the travel industry (Evergreen Tours) and many years of working for Islanders’ favorite transportation company, gives David a unique perspective on Island life and the challenges of a community reliant on tourism and restricted transportation links. David’s easygoing manner hides his serious side, but there is nothing more serious that making sure that every patron at the cafe has an enjoyable experience.

At Fernwood Road Cafe, we are here for the long run. We strive to be a part of the community and are always looking for new ways to bring people together to talk, play and expand their horizons.

Renée. This young girl is as funny as she is pretty. I meet her occasionally when I leave the office. ''Hey Renée, love your hat today! Would you like a few shots?'' That's how easygoing she is, ready in a sec. I got a dozen of shots that day, between two elevator doors in the hallway. She loves it, it makes her feel like she has ''her own photographer'' she says.

'Spring Grove'...sounds like a level out of vintage Sonic The Hedgehog but is actually a pub (and formerly renovated hotel) in lovely leafy Kingston. A short (but somewhat confusing) walk from Kingston Rail Station, The Spring Grove lives in an area quiet enough for me be able to stand in the middle of the road for long enough to take multiple pictures of the front (as you can see in the pictures)

It is some shade of gunmetal grey and stands a very noticeable 3 stories high at the end of Bloomfield Rd. It used to be the Spring Grove Hotel - and you can see - the building has some character and age. As for how It feels 'light' here in the main part, well designed for light to come through the various windows and a central skylight. How about human ambiance? The staff wear checked shirts and are young, probable students with minimal to moderate amounts of tattoos. One wears a Scroobius Pip t-shirt under her checked shirt. It's a chill, youthful atmosphere here. Maybe it's all that Kingston Uni shit rubbing off on the surrounding area?

As for the food and drink, they seem to be keen on Meantime's ales, along with, obviously, their own range of Young's beers. They could probably do better on the cider choices - they only have Aspall (not that there's anything wrong with Aspall). The food is basically pushing 'gastropub' (but perhaps not quite at THAT level of price and ATTENTION TO DETAIL). The Cote De Bouef platter shared between me and my buddy Adam was pretty legit (even though they told me they wouldn't do it blue). All in all it's not the most memorable or unusual pub I've been to, but for consistency, easygoing atmosphere, area (and a beautiful area it is)... plus that amazing garden - I would recommend it!

Best Electric Smoker

While we were intrigued with the protection on the Masterbuilt, this smoker is constructed like a tank out of 18-check 201 treated steel. It’s insulated with fiberglass to help decrease the heat accidents.

Dissimilar to some modest electric smokers which are worked with unstable, lightweight metal, the Smokein-it comes all-around protected and doesn’t require any alterations to hold a consistent temperature

At the point when you first fire this smoker up you should see a 40 to 50°F spike in temperature. When the chamber warms up the temperature will level off Best Electric Smoker and will remain at your ideal temperature for a considerable length of time.

The build quality to value makes this still a magnificent worth electric smoker on the list of best electric smokers 2021, and on the off chance that you can spend that bit additional you’ll be compensated with obviously better grill.

You get 4 removable tempered steel cookingBest Electric Smoker racks to arrange how you like.

What We Like:

Long power cord – 12 feet in length power cord is helpful in the event that you have to use the smoker away from the electric switchboard.

Great versatility for a smoker of this size – Wheels on the base are helpful if need to move your smoker around.

Extremely proficient wood utilization – Helps you Best Electric Smoker save money on wood chips. You should just need 2-5oz of wood relying upon what you’re cooking.

While a few people have brought up that the low situation of the indoor regulator implies the smoker runs somewhat colder at the top, we would remind you to Best Electric Smoker measure the temperature where the meat is really sitting consistently.

There truly is nothing awful we need to state about this unit. This is Best Electric Smoker the best mix of size and quality out of every single electric smoker we’ve seen.

In 2002 Spirit became the first Montana Grizzly to be placed at the Center. As a six-year-old, mother of two, Spirit was known by Fish, Wildlife and Parks biologists as "Easy" because of her easygoing personality and was often seen roaming the beach or golf course near the community in Whitefish, Montana. She obtained some human food and was passing on this behavior to both her cubs. Although she never was involved with aggressive tendency toward humans, it was only a matter of time before a dangerous situation became a reality. Spirit was relocated six times, but continued to return to the golf community even after intensive aversive conditioning with the use of Karelian Bear Dogs, cracker shells and rubber bullets. After one of her cubs was killed by a car, officials decided to remove the other cub by placing it in captivity at the Denver Zoo, and then to remove Spirit from the wild forever. Soon after arriving at the Center, this bear received the name Spirit in honor of the spritual signigicance of grizzlies to many Native American people.

Jason Anthony has been tattooing in the Phoenix area for over a decade. His easygoing nature, diverse skill set, and stunning good looks make him a treat to work with and to be around. When he isn’t busy making the Valley, nay, the entire state of Arizona a better looking place, you can find him avoiding responsibility and probably scheming ways to make Phoenix more like the Pre-Roman invasion of the British Isles. Until time folds on itself you can find him tattooing at his shop, Golden Rule Tattoo that he runs with his partners in business John O’Hagan and David Maxwell. Jason has managed to fumble onto a few awards, trophies, and plaques during his still burgeoning career and hopes that more people will think he’s better than he really is.

This was my only visit with Buckthorn before he went to Pflugerville, where they had a bigger cage for him. During my visit he was pretty easygoing and enjoyed petting.

Buckthorn is officially listed as a Flemish Giant mix. I think that's about right. Buckthorn is by far the biggest rabbit I've ever handled. However, he is not as big as some of the pictures of Flemish Giants I've seen.

(During that spot where you can't see Buckthorn about halfway through the video, I'm waiting to see if he's going to pop his head up over the side. He did it earlier.)

Buckthorn is available for adoption at the House Rabbit Resource Network's Pflugerville shelter. To find out about adopting Buckthorn or any of our other bunnies start here.
