2020 one photo each day

8th May 2020:

Today is VE Day but sadly the 75th Anniversary has been a very quiet one.

Izzy "Mum took my photo while I was sitting on the modem and TV box this morning, but she later went out for her permitted walk. Even though she took lots of other things she's still using me for today's photo. Mainly because she likes it, but also she said she couldn't decide which one of the others she took to use, as she liked them all."

Me: I love that I managed to get the light right so she has one blue/green eye and one orange one!

Today is also : World Red Cross Day - nationaldaycalendar.com/world-red-cross-day-may-8/

Allogalathea babai (Baba’s crinoid squat lobster) Small (15mm)(droplet-shaped) squat lobster with a broad pale, central stripe on the carapace, usually with thin dark borders surrounded by a color matching the host crinoid. The A. elegans has a black or dark line across its back. There is a single spine behind the eyes on each side of its carapace. It feeds on plankton, as does its host the crinoid, which also provides the squat lobster with good feeding areas. (www.peerintoyourworld.com)

7th August 2021 :

I would have used my seascape photo for today, for the Weekly Theme of "Water."

But, when I found this on the window ledge in the entrance to the apartments it looked far more fun.

It's the light fitting from one of the bathroom cabinets, which someone has had removed.

AFFIRMATION

May an Angel’s love surround you

Each and every day

May an Angel’s breath keep you warm

And tempt you to stay

May an Angel’s wings protect you always

When your life becomes difficult and hard

When the light seems increasingly dark

And you need help to find your way

May an Angel’s love surround you

Each and every day

*****

Blessings to you all,

Shelley.

Thank you to each and every one of you who has supported and shared your lives and thoughts with me this year.

I cannot thank you enough, as you have kept a light burning for me as well in difficult times.

Even semi-human Angels need love to know they are needed...

I write often of spiritual love, but some days we need to feel real tangible love.

I seek ways out of the darkness, and I hope you will continue to fly with me into the New Year.

Forgive my lateness in replying to comments and faves from my last batch of work, I will get to you...life is demanding and even Angels have to sleep....sometimes..haha!

Angels drive cars and have to get them fixed and sort out dodgy freezers right before Xmas. Angels have family and they sometimes need your surety.

But Angels also have friends on Flickr who have supported them and commented, faved and viewed with astounding generosity.

Thank you, thank you, with all my heart.

8th January 2021:

Another present I bought for the apartment at Christmas. I'd lost two mugs last year and we were beginning to run out. Saw these in the supermarket and liked the colours, but also their size.

One each, but Graham still uses his tie and button mug, it's even bigger than these!

It's also, unintentionally, fits the weekly theme "Something Blue."

The lesser yellowlegs is a medium-sized shorebird. It breeds in the boreal forest region of North America.

They migrate to the Gulf coast of the United States, the Caribbean, and south to South America. This species is a regular vagrant to western Europe; in Great Britain about five birds arrive each year, mostly between August and October, with the occasional individual overwintering. Their breeding habitat is clearings near ponds in the boreal forest region from Alaska to Quebec. (Wikipedia)

Each still photograph is a privileged moment turned into a slim object that one can keep and look at again :-)

Vancouver House is a neo-futurist residential skyscraper in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Construction of the skyscraper began in 2016 and was expected to be finished by the end of 2019, but completion was postponed to summer of 2020.[2][3]

Design

Vancouver House was designed by Danish architect Bjarke Ingels and structural engineers Buro Happold and Glotman Simpson. The design is based on a triangle that rises from the ground and gradually transitions into a rectangle as it ascends to the top.[5] The design reflects the constraints of developing the triangular-shaped plot of land immediately east of the Howe Street on-ramp of the Granville Street Bridge.[6] The east and west facades of the building feature box-shaped balconies, giving the building's exterior a honeycomb texture.[7]

Spinning Chandelier, a public art piece, was installed near the skyscraper as part of the city's rezoning requirement.

Fortress of Anaklia (Georg. ანაკლიის ციხე) has seen many wars, but despite the turbulent events, it has survived to this day. According to the plan, there was one tower at each corner of the square castle. The towers on the first and second floors had separate entrances from the courtyard. There was a hole in the walls for firing a gun. The opening for the cannons was preserved only in the outer wall of the southwestern rectangular tower. The castle is surrounded by a two-story fence, the lower tier is deaf and the upper tier, which also has a hole for firing small arms at the level of the path.

During the Russian-Turkish wars, this fortress played an important role. Having stood for more than three centuries, the fortress can still be proud of its strong defensive structures. Anaklia was also an important port settlement on the Black Sea and was one of the earliest settlements, dating back to the mid-Bronze Age and having a typical Colchis culture. The modern name of the settlement is derived from the ancient Colchis colony of Heraclus. Since the 19th century, Anaklia has been a small but heavily fortified seaport with customs and significant trade with Turkey.

Just finished it today as it is raining outside.

Three views of a peculiar connector socket... and each of those evokes something totally different to me, as the titles of the three variants can attest. And it was not even intentional at the time of the shooting. 😇

The socket consists of a matrix of 6x6 (minus the ones in the corners, so 32 in total) golden plated contacts, whose directions are alternating at 90° of each other for each row, so as to guarantee an optimal robustness of the connection, probably. The dimension of the square matrix is 4x4cm, so it complies ideally with the 3" rule of the Macro Mondays group.

For the context, this socket is part of an old electrical device. I salvaged it from an electronic waste collecting point, out of curiosity, as It didn't look like anything I had seen before. With this week's "Socket" topic, it became obvious that I could finally make good use of the "thing". Entering in a search engine some reference number I found on the object, I could trace its origin as being a "communication test device" being used by the army.

Having opened it, I was impressed by the thoughtful engineering that went into its conception. Now that the object played its role a last time, I happily returned it to the electronic junk collection point, albeit as a heap of dissembled parts. 😊

Does that sound strange? Well, let me tell you, it was indeed a strange sight to encounter. In this field, there were scores of dead grasshoppers clinging to these slender stalks. I was simply amazed. When I saw this pair, it really struck a chord. For some reason, it made me think of lost love. You know, losing a lover, the loss of a friendship, the loss of self-love. I'm sure that you catch my drift. Anyway, I found this to be very sad and yet comforting at the same time. After all, they died in each other's arms.

Each of us has had a real or imaginary place where we have had beautiful dreams with our love or with friends, remembering the times of youth where we could have created a better world together... who knows if today's young people will be able to have our same dreams, realizing at least in part what we have started...

----

Treasure huntin the only problem is i already have like five of each of these colors .if you got some cool shit to trade.let me know

Each one was like a kiss...too sweet but I could not stop.

Each time I've been out watching the Ruby-throated Hummingbirds at the local Metro Park I've seen one of them flying in a large U-shaped figure above the flower fields. I've come to learn this is the male putting on a show for the female. If the female is interested, she assumes a submissive (or seductive) pose and the male comes in closer to check her out.
