This, apparently is how the whole dump-n-burn thing was discovered - during an aborted landing, the aircrew decided to dump fuel while running on reheat for additional thrust - and the dumped fuel ignited. A lucky accident, but sooooo spectacular.
Dump is pretty specific spot which had been under construction when I was very young. It's a man's made kind of shoreline dumped with a mix of garbage and soil. Peoples talks was just about that this dump will be flushed away by the sea sooner or later. But dumping process was still going on the same as houses condtruction works. After the earthquake this area wasn't damaged at all. Probably that is why just at thit spot a new "stylish" housing complex has been immediately constructed, which after one year has elapsed wasn't looked such a good as during commissioning period. So it's a kind of tradition for houses on a dump.
This photo was taken by one of the children from CCH (Center for Children's Happiness). CCH is a center that rescues children from the dump.

We visited an organization called Project RENEW (www.landmines.org.vn) that is working to remove unexploded ordinance for parts of the Quang Tri Province, as well as helping victims, providing loans, and developing educational programs. They collect unexploded ordinance at dump sites like this one where people bring scrap metal for recycling.
