There´s an interesting lesson to be learned from this photo. I had been trying to shoot some photos in the recreational area where I live. The light were wrong for long time exposure, people were in the way of my photos, and when it started raining I called it a day. On my way home, driving my car I spotted this scene. I hit the breaks and stopped in the middle of a crossroad. Since there were cars behind me I only had time for one shot and I had to let it count. And I believe it did. What do you think? Appreciate all input. The lesson I learned which of course is obvious is that the best photos don´t come from planning but from being alert and taking the opportunity when it comes your way.

Seltjarnarnes is one of the oldest municipalities in Iceland and originally covered the majority of Reykjavik. Today the landscape of Seltjarnarnes is surrounded by the ocean on the north, west, and south coastlines. To the east Seltjarnarnes borders with Reykjavik.

Seltjarnarnes prides itself with the amazing bird life within the town limits. The biggest bird area is within the West Area, by Grótta and Bakkatjörn. About 106 different bird species have stayed in the area for shorter or longer time periods. Over half of the bird population is Icelandic layer birds. Among the "guests" is the tern, the goose, the duck, and the eiderduck. The coastline and beaches of Seltjarnarnes is also occupied with a variety of bird life and unique flora.

Did some more studio and outdoor portrait work last night at the Art Gallery of Burlington with models on both ends of the age scale!

Starting with a young ballerina who I had previously done portraits of, and finishing with a slightly older gentleman, who I opted for a close up grittier style with.

Sunset at Horseshoe Bend as the Colorado River winds through the glowing sandstone.

Captured on the cliffs of Portugal, where land meets the roaring Atlantic. A lone fisherman stands fearless on a narrow rock ledge, embraced by the golden mist of the setting sun.

A quiet dialogue between man, sea, and light.

This is the color version, using soft lighting, of a small wooden figure (5 inches tall) that I photographed yesterday.

Lighting stuff: Because I wanted soft lighting, I placed a YN560-III in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box at camera left and just out of the frame. Fill light came from a small mirror at camera right. The flash, in manual mode, was triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N.

Other still life images that I've posted, are in my Still Life album.

Capturing the Essence: The Power of Shadow and Light

In portrait photography, what we choose to hide in shadow is often just as important as what we choose to reveal. This recent session in the studio was an exploration of minimalism and intensity.

The Art of the Portrait

For this shot, I wanted to move away from traditional "flat" lighting to create something more cinematic. By using a single, controlled light source, we highlighted the model's features while maintaining a deep, velvety atmosphere.

The Mood: Introspective and bold.

The Styling: A simple black turtleneck to ensure the viewer's focus remains entirely on the eyes and the expression.

The Technique: Chiaroscuro-inspired lighting that adds depth and a three-dimensional feel to a two-dimensional medium.

Only one led was use as you can see in her eyes.

Study in half-light

Description:

Study in half-light: some faces feel likea a whole story, without saying a word.

In my eyes this portrait carries that quiet history.

Camera: Canon EOS 2000D — Lens: Jupiter-9 85mm (85mm, vintage Soviet glass)

The little village of Elgol is one of the most photographed parts of the Isle of Skye. Elgol is an increasingly popular destination for climbers and hill walkers of all levels due to its unparalleled access to the famous Cuillin Hills and the various smaller hills dotted around wherever you look. Elgol is a crofting and fishing village in the Strath area of the Island. The small, sparsely populated village is scattered along the final mile of the road from Broadford.

Though you may never have heard of the little fishing and crofting village of Elgol in the Scottish Highlands, there is a good chance that you have seen photos of Elgol's famous mountain and seascape scenery in postcards, Scottish books and even film scenes and television programmes. From the larger Skye village of Broadford many visitors have turned down the enchanting Elgol road completely unaware of the magnificent scenes that await them around almost every corner. The 15 mile journey over twisty single-track roads will take you past High Pastures Cave, one of the most significant archaeological finds in the area, then sweep you around the corner to the ancient, historical site of Kilchrist church

Every mile you drive on your journey from Broadford to Elgol will fool you into thinking that the scenery simply cannot be bettered. However, you will be proved wrong when you arrive in Elgol and reach the shore and the little fishing harbour. There is simply nothing on earth to compare to the site of the Cuillin Hills beyond the Elgol shore - a breathtaking view whether it is sunny or stormy.

There are various opinions as to the meaning of the name, 'Elgol' (or Ealaghol in the native Gaelic, some suggesting 'The Noble Dale' and others 'The Weeping Swan' (folklore details the story of a Viking captain who perished when his longboat named 'The Swan' came to attack the people of Elgol).

What you see here is the coke plant in Duisburg, in this plant they produce cokes that are pre-heated and cooled-down with water before the cokes are transported to the furnace of the steel factory. The black tower in the middle produces enormous clouds (vaporized water).

A captivating portrait showcasing the model's intense gaze and striking features, captured in dramatic black and white.

A burst of very strong early spring sunshine lights up the County Bridge and castle ruins under a dark sky.

Re posted

Walking back down the track after a disappointing, dismal , non productive walk towards Sty head and suddenly the sun burst through the cloud behind us for the first time that afternoon and we dived over the stile into the Lingmell beck and shot away for fifteen minutes .

It made the trip worthwhile after all.

Egypt - Luxor - الأقصر - al-Uqṣur - Ancient Thebes - Θῆβαι - Thēbai - طيبة‎ - UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site on banks of river Nile - Sailing in Felucca (boat) in the evening time

A felucca is a sea-craft, made to a traditional design, with broad canvas sails. Essentially, the craft is reliant on wind-power with no motor, and are dependent upon the wind factor to propel forth, so itineraries are subject to change from time to time. The craft carries between 5-10 passengers comfortably and the deck is strewn with soft colorful cushions and rugs and equipped with a canopy that offers shade and protection from the elements.

Traveling down the Nile by felucca is a 'must-do' in Egypt. The sun setting across the Nile in the evening aboard a graceful felucca can't be beaten.

A moment of silence deep within Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Uganda . . .

The silverback moved slowly through the shadows, powerful yet calm, carrying the quiet authority only age and experience can command. In the dim jungle light, every distraction disappeared — leaving only presence, texture, and emotion.

Black and white felt natural for this encounter. It stripped the scene down to its essence: strength, wisdom, and the timeless atmosphere of the forest itself.

Captured during an unforgettable encounter with a wild mountain gorilla in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

This image captures a moment of tranquility featuring a woman in an elegant pose against a dark background. The soft glow illuminates her face and the earring she wears, adding a sense of mystery and elegance to the scene.
