Jökulsárlón (lit. "Glacier Lagoon") is the largest glacier lagoon or lake in Iceland. Situated in south eastern Iceland, at the head of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier branching from the Vatnajökull, between Skaftafell National Park and Höfn, it evolved into a lagoon after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The lake has grown since then at varying rates because of melting of the Icelandic glaciers.
I guess every and each landscape photographer is dreaming of capturing Jökulsárlón - Glacier Lagoon at least once in his/hers life and of course we all dream about perfect conditions... and I call myself very lucky to have experienced several stunning sunsets over this amazing place !!
Timelapse movies had become my new way of capturing my travels besides regular photography.

A very brief burst of sunshine provides backlighting for the mist lifting off Crossthwaite Common and creating an eerie effect around Kirkcarrion.
Mid April. A storm system passed through this area yesterday and it really was beautiful. I would have loved to have gone out early in the morning to take pictures as the snow managed to coat the north-east side of every tree - spectacular! Alas, it was not to be, but I did capture this eerie light illuminating the blowing snow on these drifts later on in the day.

A golden winter sun pierces through the dense morning fog in Dyrmyrgata, Kongsberg. Bare trees stand like dark silhouettes against a glowing canvas, creating a serene interplay of light and shadow. Kongsberg is historically famous for its silver mines, which began operating in 1623. Today, the city is a hub for advanced technology and defense industries, home to Kongsberg Gruppen—one of Norway’s leading tech companies.
We stood on the Seceda for over two hours amid shifting rain showers and dense clouds, 2,500 meters above the valley.
Visibility: almost zero. 😶️ Mood: in the basement. 😤
For me, the Seceda without clouds is only half the Seceda, so we waited.
When the cloud cover finally tore open, I could hardly believe my eyes. To my left, this rainbow appeared.
A rainbow needs two ingredients: water droplets and sunlight from the right direction.
From a mountain summit, you can sometimes see a rainbow as a complete circle because the horizon is low enough.
I was lucky enough to look down into the valley basin as if through a window into another world.
The wait had been worth it, and not just for the perfect photo.

Über zwei Stunden standen wir auf der Seceda in wechselnden Regenfeldern und dichten Wolken, 2.500 Meter über dem Tal.
Sicht: kaum. 😶️ Laune: im Keller. 😤
Die Seceda ohne Wolken ist für mich aber nur die halbe Seceda, also warteten wir.
Als die Wolkendecke endlich aufriss, traute ich meinen Augen kaum. Zu meiner Linken leuchtete dieser Regenbogen.
Ein Regenbogen braucht zwei Zutaten: Wassertröpfchen und Sonne aus der richtigen Richtung.
Von einem Berggipfel aus kann man einen Regenbogen manchmal als vollständigen Kreis sehen, weil der Horizont tief genug liegt.
Ich hatte das Glück, von oben auf den Talkessel hinabblicken zu können, wie durch ein Fenster in eine andere Welt.
Das Warten hatte sich nicht nur für das Zielfoto gelohnt.

Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon is one of Icelands most spectacular sights, located about 60 km east of Skaftafell National Park and almost 400 km from Reykjavik. Jokulsarlon borders south and east part Iceland, at the roots of Europe's largest glacier Vatnajokull. Breidamerkurjokull, an outlet glacier of the great glacier Vatnajokull, crumbles down the steep mountainside of the glacier and big icebergs break off into the lagoon where they float around before melting. This is a very popular sightseeing attraction, widely regarded as the most picturesque scenery in all of south Iceland. At the time when the first settlers arrived in Iceland around 900 AD, the edge of the glacier tongue of Breidamerkurjokull, is thought to have been about 20 km further north than it is now. Many commercials and several major international motion pictures have been filmed at this exotic location, including James Bond's “Die Another Day” and “Batman Begins”.
We were very lucky with the amazing weather and light during whole trip in Iceland. This was particularly very magical moment which I have enhanced with longer exposure time.

I recently took a trip of a couple days through the Flint Hills of Kansas, looking for old school houses and buildings. One of my intended subjects was the old Lower Fox Creek school house, sitting high on a rolling hilltop along highway 177, near Strong City Ks. It was a very cloudy and windy evening with lightning striking all around. As I neared the old school, a break in the clouds formed, giving the setting sun the opportunity to send out golden rays of light in the direction of the old school. Serendipity! Those rays were still shining on it as I pulled up the drive and leaped out of the car with excitement with my camera around my neck and tripod under my arm, searching for the best vantage point. (Who said old Phooey can't run? Although I am glad there were only one set of eyes there at the time! Hah!) I managed to get a couple sets of exposures before the sun gently faded from view and it became too dark to take photos. As I headed back to the hotel, I knew I would have to re-visit the old school again in the morning, not knowing that I would be rewarded yet again with the prettiest sunrise that the great state of Kansas could offer (my next post; I'm getting ahead of myself!)
Lower Fox Creek school was built of locally quarried (beautiful) stone circa 1880 and served the educational needs of the rural area until the 1930's. After sitting empty for many years, a storm damaged the roof, giving incentive for the area people to renovate the old school in 1968 and it was placed on the National List of Historic Places. It is currently a part of the Tallgrass Prairie Nature Preserve and is one of the most photographed places in Kansas. Hope you all are having a great week!

beneath the heavy folds of crimson fabric, the light filters in like a muted fire. it burns against the wall, painting it in soft, fleeting hues, while the shadows linger below, stretching across the desk. the camera rests in the dark, quiet and forgotten, waiting for its moment to capture the world outside this glowing barrier. there’s a stillness here—a kind of pause between the closing of curtains and the opening of stories untold. the air feels dense with warmth, the kind that speaks of solitude and secrets. it’s not just a curtain; it’s a threshold, holding back the world as the light leaks through.

On passe devant beaucoup d'images. Certaines, pourtant, décident qu'on restera un peu plus longtemps, sans bruit, sans raison apparente, comme si elles avaient encore quelque chose à dire, une fois le silence installé.
EN Some people don't attract attention, they slow down time.
We scroll past countless images. Yet a few quietly decide we'll stay a little longer, no noise, no explanation. As if they still had something to say, once silence has settled in.
Il y a dans la danse classique quelque chose qui dépasse le mouvement. Une ligne, un regard, une main posée presque naturellement… et tout semble devenir plus calme. J’aime ces instants où la technique disparaît derrière l’élégance, où le corps ne cherche plus à impressionner et se contente simplement de trouver sa place dans la lumière.
La grâce, parfois, tient à presque rien.
EN There is something in classical dance that goes beyond movement. A line, a gaze, a hand resting almost naturally… and suddenly, everything feels quieter. I love those moments when technique disappears behind elegance, when the body no longer tries to impress and simply finds its place within the light. Sometimes, grace is found in almost nothing.

Another view from this weekend's very pretty sunset at El Matador State Beach. There are so many great rocks and sea stacks and arches at this beach, the comps seem almost endless. The tide was also just right that evening--not too high, not too low--for lots of playing around with water motion.

Superb lighting conditions as patches of very strong sunshine create light and shade in Harwood. Marshes Gill farm on the left, Low End on the right,
Lit from behind with an SB600 in a snoot, from front right with an SB700 in a softbox, and from front left with an SB600 in a softbox. The light from behind was the hero here, and the sidelight was just to fill in a little. Power levels were adjusted until they looked right. Strobes were triggered by the pop up flash on my D90.

Any other fans of chiaroscuro/tenebrism/extreme light & shadow out there? It can work well in colour (e.g. the paintings of Caravaggio and Leonardo da Vinci) but I love it when I can pull the effect off in black and white. This was taken in London, between the Millennium Bridge and St Paul's Cathedral. I'm pleased with this one.
