This was taken during a Subaru-organized photoshoot I did a few days ago. The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) has imposed a curfew on Mauna Kea and bans the public from the summit after 10 PM. This is enormously counter-productive, because it punishes the amateur astronomers, night photographers, hikers, and hunters who enjoy the mountain in a non-disruptive manner while having no effect on the TMT protesters whatsoever. This policy has made photography of the summit area much more difficult, which is part of the reason I haven't posted much recently. Now, if I want to take photos on the summit, I coordinate with individual observatories.
Even though this image is pointed south and was taken several days before the peak of the Perseid shower, I caught two different Perseid meteors, in the upper right and left. Subaru is on the right, and the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) is on the left. The mountain above JCMT is the massive Mauna Loa. The red dot is the Mauna Loa Observatory, where there are several small telescopes and the NOAA collects information about the CO2 content of the atmosphere (and thereby climate change). The three green dots above JCMT are from the Mauna Loa Mars simulation buildings (called HI_SEAS).

Day after capturing rainbow from Roanoke Mtn I would witness a bright and long lasting double bow over the city.
British Railways(W) Hawksworth designed "Modified Hall” 4-6-0 no.6990 ‘Witherslack Hall’ and British Railways(W) Collett designed 'Manor' 4-6-0 no.7828 ‘Odney Manor’ double-head past Kinchley Lane, Swithland, with the 16:00 up Loughborough-Leicester North train.
These two cormorants were sunbathing on a log in Kirk Pond. I believe they are double-crested cormorants based on the information below. The one on the right would be a juvenile, having a paler neck and breast.

When I saw this double reflection of me in the corner of a mirror in the ballroom of a downtown Memphis hotel, I thought it was interesting and took a quick shot of it.
