Robbie Edalgo, my VISTA sponsor and me, flashing our "V". I say "our" because Robbie is a VISTA Alumni, in addition to being head of the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Program in Woodbine, Ga., where I serve.

VISTA is a acronym for "Volunteers in Service to America" It is an arm of AmeriCorps. Basically it is the domestic Peace Corp. The commitment is one full year of service

Double Exposures (in Camera)

Double exposure of a carved wooden monk and Godzilla.

Taken with matchbox pinhole camera - my Star Cam - Ilford Delta 3200 - rated at 800. Most indoor exposures were around 6 seconds, I often have to increase contrast and darken some in photoshop. I name all my pinhole cameras so I can see if there is a difference in the pinholes, which are all handmade.

This is another Charles Martell cows' milk cheese from Glorious Gloucestershire. Love the mottled interior and spotty rind,

The LC-A makes double exposures fun. Now I have to be a bit more strategic on what's in the frame. So much to learn and try 8-) 3 Frames in one

My first attempt at a double exposure shot using photoshop

A cow moose with newborn twins wandered into the lodge the other day... needless to say... we didn't push the issue to get that perfect two baby picture... so you all will have to settle for a one baby picture... This was taken just above the playground... natch...

been busy so... slow to take time for picture taken let alone flickr cruisin... hope all are havin as good of summer as us... cbc

Here's my idea of a great morning: First, get up early to go look for shorebirds but instead find a White Ibis. Next, slowly and silently sneak 1/4 mile through muck, trees and cobwebs to the best concealed spot I can find in a thicket of willows just off the edge of the remaining pool of water. Last, grab camera and lay down in aforementioned hot, humid muck and wait for Ibis to wander into range for a good shot.

Fortunately the Ibis cooperated and over the next two hours came within 40-50ft several times to forage and preen. Apparently this bird was spotted a few days earlier by Jay Lehman and has continued to hang around since then. I am amazed and thrilled that this is now the second White Ibis currently in SW Ohio, the first continuing to reside at Englewood Park in Dayton.

The Ibis was still present when I left at 11:30am.

Double Arch

For a closer look at Double Arch, walk this easy trail and stand underneath the towering arch. From there, look up and see the rim of what was once a pothole, now open to the sky.

At Double Arch, three major openings are enlarging side by side. They all began as one pothole.

The third largest arch in the park, Double Arch's larger span is 144 feet wide by 112 feet high (44 by 34 meters). The smaller opening is 67 feet wide by 86 feet high (20 by 26 meters).

Pothole Arch Formation

Pothole arches start as depressions near a cliff face.

Pools of water collect and slowly deepen the pothole. Over time, water seeps through to the cliff face, forming an alcove.

Eventually, the enlarging pothole meets the roof of the expanding alcove, creating an opening. The arch matures as erosion continues.

double bloom on Double Delight, yes two blooms open from one bud. This has happened before. I don't know if that is why they named it Double Delight. I thought it was because of the two colors of bloom or both beauty and lovely scent.
