365: The 2015 Edition (205/365)

We had a long day of rain for our first day in the mountains. But, at sunset, the clouds parted and a double rainbow glowed in the sky.

Daffodils (narcissus) are native to Europe and were brought to the Americas in the 1600s. The double daffodil is considered rare, but they grow wild and plentiful here on the farm. Perhaps they are simply overlooked in preference of the more delicate and neat trumpet-like varieties.

Just outside of Paris ON this double decker sits at a sign shop.

It has been there for some time.

Think it looks cool.

They always get my attention as I would love to capture them doing the torpedo when they pursue a fish. I had that opportunity once and would love it again especially when the fish jumps out in front of them.

In April of this year, Nightwish released their 9th album titled 'Human Nature'. Like their previous albums the whole CD resolved around one theme, in this one it focused on our behaviour. And for the first time, it was a double CD. The first CD contained songs with lyrics, the second one is purely instrumental. And also in the tradition of the Band, the composition are very variatious, influenced by many different styles and each of the songs takes a surprising turn or catches you off guard. I have spent hours listening to it, each time discovering a new nuance or catch the meaning of the lyrics a bit deeper. This song fits perfectly with the end of fall and the harvest season. It is also the first song focused on Troy Donockley, the multi instrumentalist, and he shines with his soft vocal and warm singing voice while Floor Jansen and Marco Hietala provide back up vocals. In all the songs on this album those three provide vocals in addition to their instrumental talents. And Marco and Troy don't need to shy away from the spotlight either, each of them a talented singer in their own way. This band oozes talent, it isn't fair 😊 Tuomas really has a huge pool to create his composition from and I can't wait to see them perform finally once this CoVid madness is over

Harvest - Nightwish

My harvest will come

Tiny valorous straw

Among the millions

Facing to the sun

I will pause before a man

Whose path has just begun

Something unsung our way comes

The quarternary code

Gave mankind a rose

So we could see the beautiful die

The strange peace of storm

Hovers over crops

And a child's face aglow before the scythe

Join the harvest of hundred fields

Hearty and tame

All going back to one single grain

Offer light to the coming day

Inspire a child

Water the field, surrender to the earth

Water the field, surrender to the earth

Water the field, surrender to the earth

They have beauty beyond all poetry

But choose a silent misery

The deeper their sea, the less remains

They'll find the pretty words

And tame flocks to herd

There's that, or a carousal of dare

Join the harvest of hundred fields

Hearty and tame

All going back to one single grain

Offer light to the coming day

Inspire a child

Water the field, surrender to the earth

Water the field, surrender to the earth

Join the harvest of hundred fields

Hearty and tame

All going back to one single grain

Offer light to the coming day

Inspire a child

Water the field, surrender to the earth

Join the harvest of hundred fields

Hearty and tame

All going back to one single grain

Offer light to the coming day

Inspire a child

Water the field, surrender to the earth

Surrender to the earth

A botanical art edit of a spray of leaves from our Double Viburnum bush in our back garden.

The Doublefile Viburnum (Viburnum plicatum f. tomentosum) is a true "architectural" plant. In a landscape, it acts less like a simple bush and more like a living sculpture because of its unique horizontal branching.

I planted this about 20 years ago and it's still bringing grace and beauty to our property...

Enjoy!

double burger at Loretta's Northwesterner, hyped by the internet, driven miles for, had a lot to live up to and failed. Didn't fail spectacularly, but there have to be better burgers available in Seattle.

Saw this cool puddle reflection while out running errands today.

Didn't notice the reflection in the car until after I took the shot.

I took a day off yesterday, and did a road trip in the Swiss Alps and nearby Südtirol in Italy. On the way back I passed by the small village of Valchava in Val Müstair (Muestair valley) in the canton of Graubünden. It was drizzling, the main road was steaming in the backlight of the sun. I jumped out of the car to take a few shots in the rain. Then I turned around, just because. The sight was stunning - the village center with church, some buildings and a heavenly double rainbow.

I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.
