UP Y-PRCP pulls under the signal bridge at B12 Interlocking with a pair of SD70Ms on a sunny afternoon in the Park of Franklin. Even though I have shot this scene many many times, eventually the signal bridge will be replaced, and those motors will be retired as well, so an attempt to document was made.
Like many people around the world, I was affected by the death of Steve Jobs, as I knew in my heart that his vision had affected my life greatly. Rather than post another photo taken by someone else, or a corporate image, I thought about what my personal connection was to this great man.
In the early 1980's, I became interested in "computerizing" my textile screen printing business, ZOO-INK. I read books about databases and DOS, and although I understood what it was about, it was not for me.
In 1984 I was in Macys store (yes, Macys! clothing!) and saw an Apple Macintosh for sale. I moved the mouse and was able to draw a rough line on the computer monitor. Finally, this was for me.
I waited almost a year, for the next generation Mac, and in July of 1985 purchased a "Fat Mac", 512 kilobytes of RAM, no hard disk, 1 floppy drive and an external floppy (3.5" disk) drive. It was bundled with a dot matrix Imagewriter, all for the fantastic price of $2,998.00. Looks like I put half on my credit card and the paid for the other half with a check.
Over the next 10 years I designed fabric on this (and subsequent models), learned how to write database software, developed some business programs, and built an entirely new company, AG Systems, around the machine that allowed me to draw on the screen.
Although I think that many of the ideas that Steve Jobs brought to market would have happened anyway, I do credit him with the vision that accelerated the notions of what is possible in electronic computation for the everyman. I do believe he earned his CEO's salary and stock options.

This note, found inside a lovely daguerreotype of a young man, reads "This is a Daguerreotype Portrait. about 1845. These photos were taken between 1842-1857. The Chief Librarian at the Victoria & Albert Museum said it was a splendid specimen & well worth retaining.

The Battle of Trafalgar (21 October 1805) was a naval engagement fought by the Royal Navy against the combined fleets of the French and Spanish Navies, during the War of the Third Coalition (August–December 1805) of the Napoleonic Wars (1803–1815).
Those who died at sea were caste to the sea bound in their hammocks, but all who died on Gibraltar were interred on the ‘Rock’ but today only two Trafalgar (graves) headstones exist in the Trafalgar cemetery in Gibraltar, not the original cemetery, the site of the earlier cemetery cannot be identified. The two graves are of Lt William Foster of the Colossus admitted on the 28th died 30th Oct from a thigh wound. and Captain of Marines Thomas Norman admitted 3rd Nov and died on the 6th Dec from a shattered skull
The ‘Mars’, ‘Africa’, ‘Colossus’ and ‘Temeraire’ amongst other ships were to arrive at the Royal Hospital Haslar on the 1st December 1805 and discharged more injured (in large numbers), or those discharged from Gibraltar who had taken a turn for the worse.

I always found it beautiful that a document with so few words perfectly summed up with such a vivid picture the times at hand and the changes this tattered country was going through. Decades upon decades later it is still so beautiful…

- I release about 1-3 homes each month. Soo not too time consuming.

I haphazardly collect old and new hymn books. I bought these two from the historical library at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, VA, while doing some research there. The open book is The Sacred Hymnal, a shape note tunebook from the Ruebush Kieffer Co., the main focus of my recent research efforts. Edited by J. H. Hall, J. H. Ruebush, and W. H. Ruebush, the book was published in 1899 and intended for worship services, prayer meetings, Sunday school, revivals, and other religious meetings. It contains 200 hymns divided into 7 sections: worship, man’s ruin and redemption, the Christian life, the Christian church, young people’s department, the life beyond, and miscellaneous.
The other book is Sacred Songs No.1, edited by Ira D. Sankey, James McGranahan, and George C. Stebbins. The book is in round notes and published by the Biglow and Main Company of New York in 1896. Sankey and Philip Bliss were instrumental in the formation of gospel music, publishing their first collection of songs for gospel meetings in 1875. The book includes many new songs along with “useful and popular pieces,” making it “practical and desirable.” Many sacred and gospel music publishers in the late 19th century issued new songbooks on a regular basis, suggesting that the public sang regularly from the published books and had an appetite for new songs. The editors express their hope that the book will be useful in churches and prayers meetings, as well as in the home so that “the good old-time custom of singing the praises of God in the home may again be revived.”

and to all you haters out there who make fun of overweight people or anyone who looks down on themselves, get a life. how would you feel if you were the cause of someone's suicide? if you hurt someone so badly, they took their life for it? you all disgust me. think before you speak all the time, because you could honestly save a life.
