With my truck at the dealer for several hours I decided to treat myself to a walking tour of Ashland, WI on this perfect fall day.
This abandoned pier east of the ore dock is now part of the linear park running alongside Chequamegon Bay. It was about this time I heard the CN blowing for a crossing on the way to the tie grinding track. I walked up there but didn't make it on time, it is about a mile away. Railfanning on foot definately has its drawbacks.

Look closely - Bosco is just at the edge of my frame.
This was only Bosco's second session of dock diving and already he's routinely jumping 17 to 20 feet.

There is evidence that humans lived and exploited the marshes in and around the St. Johns river inlet 10,000 years ago, so all Europeans are latecomers. Mayport has been simply a place where the sea and sky informed human life for centuries, and now the Jacksonville Port Authority wants to obliterate that with its ill-advised plans for berthing cruise ships.
It was a fairly still, if cold night when I came out of the War Of The Worlds show at the Echo Arena, so I fired off a few shots around Salthouse Dock and the Liverpool Wheel on my way back to the car.

Victoria Dock: The sun has just come out -What a difference that makes! The Hotel Grand Chancellor with its' magnificent 180 deg. panoramas from all levels. Off to the right the old Gasometer, further around 'The Drunken Admiral' Seafood Restaurant with the tan roof and wonderful things inside! Then Henry Jones IXL. Jam Factory. God, I love this place!
